right lads, so im sat at the poker table and ive bought in for my usual $5, and im doing ok, but theres a guy at the table mouthing off calling me a fish (which i am to be fair lol) and i gave him it back, telling him to get on his bike 'tony g style'...anyway the banter continues for about half an hour when eventually he comes out with 'leave the table fish boy' because i didnt call his all in....to which i said 'says the one who's stuck at 2nl'.....and he replies, this is 5NL......WHAT....i thought it was 2nl......turns out ive been playing 5nl from the very start thinking it was 2nl......what a plum i am haha....anyway i tilted with this asshole and went all in with ace rag and he called it with 2 4's and held up.....so im down to $14 bankroll, ........tbh i wasnt making any money at 5nl, always just breaking even...up and down like a yoyo.....so how in the blue hell am i going to get out of 2nl.....jesus i will be there for the rest of my life haha.......

also, how do you find out how many hands you have played at a level?....can you get that at the poker site or do you have to download something else.....because ive seen people mention that they can get out of 2nl in like 20k hands.....i would like to know how many hands im playing.....cheers

Just offer to play him at 50nl HU or something. Whenenver I see someone like this I tell them to come play me HU, give them table name and sit HU, not one has actually sat in yet.

A smart man learns from his mistakes. A WISE man learns from the mistakes of others. ~ Confucius

Man... you're bound and determined to make every mistake there is to make. Turn off the chat, tighten up, and get serious. Unless you're not serious. Then you're on the right tack.

Ok. First, ignore everyone who talks shit. Easiest way is to turn off the chat. Second, who gives a **** what that guy has to say?
-He only plays 5nl
-He wants 'fish' to leave his table(AFAIK most good players want to keep fish)
-He plays 5nl

He's a zero.

Third. 2nl is VERY beatable and you definitely won't be there for very long as long as you keep reading, posting hands, and listening to what people here have to say.

Alyoung, I agree with bgomez89 in that 2nl is very beatable. Of course your going to have days where you lose however I think the optimal strategy with 2nl is that you cant try to play that deceptive. Ive been playing for almost two weeks playing two tables to learn and Im up like $18 right now. Basically stick to ABC poker for the most part and I think youll be fine. Hope this helps!

This
Turn off the chat if it tilts you , play a solid game and you will be fine.
In fact if you know what tilts you then you are ahead of the curve , avoid things that do it when you are playing . More importantly is to find a method to overcome the problem and convert it into an asset .

Avoid the macho stuff, both in chat and in terms of challenging people. There are more productive ways to stroke your ego - such as winning more money.

Ignoring or turning off chat is unlikely to hurt you and may help if you tend to steam or even get annoyed. And any attention you give to chat is attention you're not putting into playing your best game.

And both 2nl and 5nl are eminently beatable. All it takes is playing a decent enough game so that you give back less than the opponents give you through their frequent less than well though out actions.

Why would you not want to challenge someone who is most likely bad at poker?

Because, as you said, they never accept. Knowing this, issuing the challenge is all for show. I'd rather note who they are and look for them at other tables / in the future so that I can actually get their money.

I said none had accepted yet, I'm sure some will accept. It's not really for show if I'll happily play them.

It still makes me laugh to this day listening to people like that.

I mean, how someone has the audacity to sit at a 5nl table and call someone a fish is just beyond me when you consider the it's literally the lowest limit available.

Surely there must be a reason why they are sat at 5nl themselves, not because they are "pros" grinding up a 5nl roll.

Just ignore him next time or tell him how much of a 5nl pro he is.

I use to feel the same way, but i blew way worse then a 20$ bank roll or whatever it is you have. I think I'm down about 800$ right now lol. I had moments where I thought about giving up and thought I just didn't have it in me to play this game and I'd never move up limits but I've slowly been getting better and feel a strong improvement in my game.
Lately I've been coming off of my long sessions as a winner almost every time and if it keeps up I'll be moving up limits legitimately for the first time in my life pretty soon.

Slowly grinding my way back to a break even player :D

not if youre jchoop/played 10k+ hands a day! lol

when i was playing 2NL i had a guy on my table who was down (stats solely from 2NL and only a few hundred hands) $170. yes you read that correctly. the shove every hand pre type.

anyway, he badbeat me for stacks a couple times and was loving rubbing it in. obv i raged, he challenged me to 50NLHU and i insta sat even though it was like 40% of my roll. after about 45mins of back and forth i eventually stacked him. i dont think im by any means a great HU player, but this guy was an absolute boss heads up. i really feel like he was playind 2NL and being a dick specifically to be challenged. obv this isnt going to be common, but yeah just a heads up lol dont get caught in the ego battle

Haha that guy sounds like me tbh. I occasionally go donk around at plo2 and nl2. BI deep and playevery hand. Then you get some random person insulting you calling you a donk, then I offer 50nl HU if they think I'm a donk and point out they're playing nano-stakes whilst I grind low-stakes.
