So pokerstars is offering these EPT Final packages right? So I decided to jump in and try to get my share through the Hyper-Turbo freerolls satellites, but so far it's been the most frustating thing I've ever experienced with poker.

I decided to adopt a strategy where I will wait for my chance to put all the money in. This doesn't mean I will wait for TT+, AQ+ and shove then, but I will shove whenever I know I'm ahead of opponent's range while 3-way or Heads-Up. But still I end up losing most of the times. I will usually end up in situations like AT vs A8, AK vs QJ, KT vs K9, etc, and lose. Even post flop, I'm betting the pot with KJ in a KQ7 board, get a call, then I shove a 2 Turn to get called by K2, and I start thinking that I should have shoved in that Flop, although I would lose anyways.

I played like 5 tournaments this far, and the best place I had so far was 300th (50 shy from the qualification). The pretty much obvious conclusion is that Hypers are the poker game most prone to bad beats. So I ask whether there is any skill in it at all. I mean another strategy people take to these tournaments is shoving almost anything in the early stages (58, 75, and the like, even OOP), and build up a good stack. And even middle and later stages I still see K5 and Q5 shoving, even from huge stacks. What the hell?
My point is, is there any hope for a decent player to win these tournaments at all? It seems your skill or thought proccess is only secondary here, as long as you have enough luck to get good cards.

clearly its a lot of luck, but as long as you keep putting yourself in the right situations like you said you have been then you just have to let the cards fall. if you can keep doing it eventually it will work and you will make it. gl

I don't know if it's luck, but hyper turbos are high variance games, that's the fact. On the other hand I got the ticket and money in the first one I played and got quite close in the second one. First one I regged late and got very lucky. Well, from big stack POV if they have much bigger stack then you they'll be aggro and bully you with mediocre hands, that doesn't surprise me. I'm sure lot of decent players play those, but you can't play your usual TAG game, that will get you nowhere. At first, when blinds are low, sure take your time..... but it's going fast, so you can't sit around and wait for AA. In certain situation even shoving K5 might be right move.

Congrats :) I'll assume we'll see you in Monte Carlo then!!

Shoving with K5 is exactly what I was talking about. No doubt it may be the best move (say, you're BU, everyone folded to you, you're short stacked, etc), but it's luck-dependent. You can get against QJ and win with a worse hand. Normal tournaments depend on luck too (especially in order to get to 1st place). You need to win a lot of flips and avoid bad beats and coolers. But at least you still have some decision-making regarding your starting hands, whereas you lose most of it in Hypers :p

Hahaha, no Monte Carlo, you'd have to be luckiest person LOL. And I'm definitely not. Though in other game I finished at 21th place. Could've been better but got disconnected at crucial period.
Yep, you're definitely right, not gonna argue, you need to be lucky :)
There's over 11k players for tonight's finale and only 103 paid places haha.

Hyper Turbo's are definitely the more high variance of the bunch and i know the feeling of getting frustrated in them. I would shove also if i feel or know im ahead of my opponents likely range and well if get outdrawn or outflopped it is what it is. You got it in with the best and thats all you can do really. Just stick to your guns and know you will come out on top if you keep making correct decisions!

I think the hiper-turbos plays much luck but you have to know when to send the right time

It's clear that the luck factor is weighing a lot more in these types of tourneys but there is still a part a skill too ofcourse. Noneless, I personally don't like these types of tourneys of all.

Such a shame that Pokerstars sats for live tourneys are almost always in (hyper)turbo format :( I keep hoping that one day there will be more normal speed sats :p

I don't like hyper-turbos so much, but I think it's like in every other poker variant: If you're skilled enough, you can win on the long run. but of course the blinds are increasing much faster, so like the others said, the variance ist much higher. and you can't play like you would in normal speed sng, you have to adapt your strategy.

A MTT Hyper Turbo is about playing a larger range of cards and just hoping you hit. You have to open your range wide here, but not pushing crap.
