I watched the video from EPT and wsop, it helped a lot. The pokerstars School of Poker also helped a lot with getting a bankroll, it’s a pity that now it is no longer possible.

Home games with friends.

We was teenagers in the 70s and played a mixed game rotation of about 10 different games.

NLH was my favorite. Years before it become mainstream.

I guess we were ahead of our time.

Didn't play at all between 1982-2003. Then poker begun to be televised and I played a lot online between 2004-2013.

Now only play some cheap tournaments for fun a few times a week.

My colleague at work often played cash games, and sometimes I watched his game. When I understood the rules of the game, I also decided to try playing.

Pokerstars. Brute forced it over 10 years and I've only just become a decent player.

I got to know poker through movies and the Internet. Then on the Internet, I studied the rules of poker, read the forums and watched the video online, and then practiced on play money.

Great idea for a thread and it is so interesting to read how everyone learned! I picked up the game as a freshman at Florida State. Thanks to the Moneymaker boom, there were more poker parties than keggers for a brief shining moment in FSU’s history and luckily I was there for it. Pretty soon, I met Collin and we went to a lot of home games together. We started talking about poker a lot, and his extensive math background was a great balance for my psychology minor in terms of talking about the game from all aspects.

We both started playing online and studying the game seriously. I remember reading the Harrington On Hold’em series in my sorority house lol. Fun times :)

Hi.
I started playing poker three years ago. Once I just watched a video on YouTube and I liked the game. I got interested and started playing.
Good luck.

Almost 1 year playing poker.

Good evening everyone.
I learned how to play poker by practicing and watching the professional players, what they do in every situation.
It will be 1 year since I play poker, my game has improved a lot.
I believe that playing cash games makes you much better at reading post flop, I play cash games every day and when I play tournaments I notice this evolution in post flop reading.
When I learned to play I didn't know that there was a table of hands to play from each position, so it is crucial to learn to become a profitable player.

I went through the school of poker from PokerStars, very often sat and still sit on the streams and watch how professional players play, read a little theory, but it's not enough for me, I think to develop further in this direction, as there are not enough skills to achieve the desired result, the main thing is patience and work.

I've been playing poker for eight years and still haven't learned how to play it, knowing the rules of the game and being able to play it are two different things

Lots and lots of practice.

Books, videos, discussion....

But lots of real poker with real stakes (cash - candy is ok if it means a lot to you!)

Good luck !

While growing up my family always played card games and I always enjoyed them. My big bro used to have his mates round for a poker game some nights so he taught me the rules (probably after I nagged him).
Years later I started studying poker further - first just googling - and I haven't stopped since. I've now read several books (old and new), watched countless videos and am a member of an awesome forum that's full of like-minded people sharing advice and ideas!
