Is there a blog or book or something, somewhere, OR SOMEONE HERE LOL, where a person could read up on how to get their feet wet in terms of playing real life events associated with the major poker circuits in the world? I've heard of famous casinos like harrahs, foxwoods, etc etc...but for a southern guy like myself, we don't have any big fancy places like that around here...I know this may sound like an incredibly naive question...but I figured it was worth a shot...I would most definitely have play satellite type tournaments since my bankroll isn't fat enough for direct entries I'm sure...anyways thanks in advance guys!

The best chance you have is to play online with some major event satalites if that is what you are going for, and you have no casinos in your immediate area. I would suggest going to your local casino and playing some smaller buy ins before trying to enter any professional touranments though. Its not too bad to play for 100-200$ buy ins with fields of around 100 people. The best thing to do is just go to the closest casino and figure out what type of tournament schedule they have. If you do not have anything close to you and are dead set on playing in a huge tournament, then use the internet, play on any site that will allow you to enter some satalites and try to win your way in. that is the best advice i can give you, unless someone has some other suggestions.

thanks for the info sub, my only pitfall is that the sites that I play on, such as BCP (ACR) and carbon/betonline don't offer these types of satellites? Maybe I just havent looked hard enough? It seems like pokerstars used to ALWAYS have satellite tournies to big live circuit events? Idk, maybe I'm just behind the times and the days of an American serial qualifying to big live events is over since black friday... ;(

Pokerstars has heaps of satellites but I dont know if you can play that where you're from.

Simplest answer: Don't assume you'll be playing for a living. Keep your day job, play as much as you can, see as many hands as you can, and for goodness sake employ proper BANKROLL MANAGEMENT. As soon as you start making more then enough income on a regular basis from poker to the point where you can quit your day job, then do so, but dont expect this to happen over night. The pro's make it look easy, but it's not.

goodluck! Best thing to do for live tournament experience is definately join a circuit if you can afford to. Otherwise your local casino/poker room should offer suitable tournaments for someone to get their feet wet.

If you want to try play poker for a living I would reccomend you online poker, not live.
Live poker is very slow and therefore harder to master then these fast online games...

^ not neccasarily true. The bigger rewards are from live tournaments. The only thing is online offers much lower level buy in tournaments for a still healthy reward if you make the final table.

Lots of people make a living from Live poker and never ever touch online

I second the online games and tourneys. Your overhead is much lower and you get to play many more hands and tournaments in a given time frame.
