Hey guys,
Variance is being a bitch to me, and I'd like to clear my mind a little by playing another game.
PLUS, I'd also like to learn playing omaha anyway,
Now I know the rules of the game, but I know 0.0 about strategy,
And I'm really having trouble finding a place to learn it, Any links/tips?
thanks!

I learned omaha by playing freerolls on Power Poker (Cake skin) a few years back. They were only $25s but there were some good players and alot of spew artists and the fields were small. I don't have any suggestions of a site to play Omaha freerolls on besides the daily Carbon one. Think it's at 6pm ET. Look around and I'm sure you'll find some other site that offers them.

Besides that, just read some strategy articles. There's a link at the top of the page. Search some threads here too. I haven't read too much strategy, just learned by playing mostly.

Omaha is probably not the game to play if you're trying to escape variance though. :)

Heh thanks,
Well I'm not trying to escape the variance, it's just frustrating to get 3 suckouts in a row and lose 75$, so I'll just play 2plo or smt, so that it won't hurt when variance strikes again =p it's just for fun, but I prefer knowing what I'm doing.
thanks!

Ah cool. It's alot of fun to play and the players are generally not very good so go get it and good luck. Just remember, exactly 2 cards from your hand and 3 from the board. ;)

If you understand Holdem, lol, you are probably in trouble.

Each Omaha hand is the equivalent of 6 Holdem hands, which means at a full 9 seat table your 6 hands are up against a potential 48 other hands (8*6), and at a 6 max table you will be up against 30 other hands.

Always remember that you must use 2 of your cards and 3 from the board. That is immutable.

Play as much play money Omaha as you can. Omaha is such a wide open game that learning as much strategy as you can for free can not hurt. Actually it isn't so much strategy as it is familiarizing yourself with what works and how often it works. If you play scared, then stay away from Omaha.

Beware that warm fuzzy feeling you think you have because it is pot limit and not no limit. You can lose a huge stack as fast in PLO as in NLHE.

Beware a paired board. Beware a flushed board and anytime the board shows a straight or a flush, you can side bet yourself that the straight or flush is a made hand in someones hand. The frequency that a paired board produces a full house is higher than 50% (I'm guessing) and bigger boats are common in Omaha.

Find a passive table and play aggressively, or an aggressive table and play tight.

Personally, I prefer the passive tables, I see a lot of flops cheaply. I also prefer PLO8 over PLO.

At Omaha pot limit:
- get ready for a lot post-flop action
- the good flop is the one which gives you many draws
- good preflop give you high change for such flops (suited conectors, aces with otehr card suited etc.)
- pocket pairs are not powerfull

Last time I got perfect flop, with set + high straigth draw + flush draw with ace. Almost not way to loose. (not need to say that I went all in and lost by river).
