Hey everyone,
So I have been noticing that in my game whenever I get deal something like a Q5o or J7s while I am on the button, I am not really sure what to do. I know that since I have position I have an advantage, but I don't feel very good about those cards. What should my hand range be while I'm on the button or in HJ? Thanks for the advice!!

The betting before you should tell you if those cards are good enough for a call. I'm not sure if I would even try to steal the blinds with cards.

You can play a wider range of hands, but that range still shouldn't include things like Q5o. Nothing wrong with folding that.

Now if they blinds are worth stealing and it folds to you, you might be able to steal, but we're not really taking your hand into consideration at this point. I mean, yeah it'd be nice to have a good hand, but if you think an appropriate sized raise will take it down 80% of the time against some Nits then go for it with any two.

Couple of thoughts...Those are trash hands, for sure. But, if you're in the HJ or on the button, it's fine to try to steal the blinds with them occasionally. It will work if you have established a tight, aggressive image and action has folded to you.

Another situation would be in a loose cash game - the J7s, for example could pay off - If there are several limpers and you're not too worried about the blinds raising. But that's a pretty specific scenario that isn't going to present itself too often.

Trash hands are called trash hands for a reason. Position won't cure a trash hand very often. As you get more experience, you'll be able to identify situations where it's reasonable to make a move. Just know that those situations are not routine.

Well on the button if you are big stack and everybody folds you can raise and steal the blinds but if sb or bb call and you dnt hit on flop you must fold thats why on the button i raise only good hand cuz raiseing and folding is a waste of money
