OK, I am not sure if someone has asked this questions before or not...I looked a few pages back and did not see anything.

I absolutely HATE pocket Jacks!!!! I have gotten burned with them so many different ways. Depending on my mood, the table, position, chips stack, etc. I will either try to limp in with them and look for a set, or all under cards, make a ridiculous over bet and hope everyone folds, or just fold them, because I don't want to deal with them. Can someone please give me their philosophy on playing jacks?

Thanks

If you go to search, and choose advanced search, and search the term pocket jacks, then change the checkbox from "search entire posts" to "search only titles", you will find the other threads where this was discussed.

This link from my search may or may not work:
https://www.cardschat.com/search.php?searchid=1013602

OK, it seems to work.

You have to consider positon. You can't treat this hand the same way in early position as in late position. In fact, you can't play most hands the same way, preflop, in different seats.

There is an old, old saying in poker. There are three ways to play pocket Jacks (call, fold, raise) and they are all wrong. Always gets a chuckle, but also always seems to be true.

I recently read an article on this exact subject in another forum where the author examined each of the options in detail and came to the conclusion that the saying remains true. His conclusion:

"I know you don't want to fold. Although it wasn't discussed in this article, I prefer limping with the intent of reraising. In that spot if I get re-re-raised I can fold thinking I'm beat or barely ahead. And sometimes I get QQ to fold thinking they're up against Aces or Kings. But I'd rather lose that initial investment rather than see a flop and overplay an overpair when I'm crushed.

Slam dunk?

I think so. So when you look down and see Jacks under the gun remember that no matter what you do, your first decision is probably pretty marginal at best."

I have, so far, been unable to argue with his arguments or his logic.

Dang. Beat me to it.

It really depends on the situation, but always play them carefully and be able to lay them down.

I hate KK even more because everytime the ace flops without fail. And if you have pocket queens its like a automatic lost. Now aces are losing frequently. Just face it online you are screwed no matter what unless the site smiles on you that hand which is so ridiculous but true.

epic fail and utterly useless toward this thread, you suck imo.

Jacks to me are a hand that you dont want to slowplay and preferably you want to take down the pot with a nice aggro bet, dont let limpers in. Playing it in position, well, jacks play pretty nicely postflop as long as you narrow your opponent, or opponents to a concrete range. I like to just flat a raise IP with JJ. OOP is different story.

OOP you want to get the hand over with quickly with a 3bet, toss them away if you get called and flop is unfavorable. It totally depends on your opponents though. The real niceness from JJ is when you flop a set, though by itself its a powerful hand and should be treated as such.

I'll take the J's over Q's anyday, ladies always seem to cost me.

It depends on the table and how everyones plays at it. If they always fish check, if they're actually playing poker raise. Remember a lot of times it's not the cards you have it's the cards they think you have. So if you know they're all going to fish then why raise, but if they're really playing poker and the others will only play if they have cards, the raise will help. So assuming no fish I wouldn't play them slow and limp in, raise to match pot if you get any calls the the odds are slim that they too have a pp, but it happens, after that everything rides on the flop and how you play it. Even if a K flops up you can play like you have pocket k's to really make them think to make the call or check if you really think they have you beat.

i hate jacks as well seem to go broke very often with them but anyways base on alot of factors. if there are limpers i would raise it up try to it down if you get a raise i would call and see the flop ,if im short on chips say 10 bb or less push with them if theres alot of limpers and no raises. if im good in chips standard raise and play from there.
