Someone once told me that suited connectors are 40% against aces. Not bad, I thought, and this knowledge is causing me to (I think) over play those kinds of hands. So what do you think? Are they worth calling with, only limping in with, or what?

Also are they actually as strong against the dreaded AA as I've been told?

If i am going to play them then i would open with a raise in early position & mid position and maybe a call in late.Depends on the dynamics of the table.

If I play them, it is never in middle position or EP. I would raise on the button or the cutoff.
Perhaps jump into a multiway pot that has been raised in LP.

That is IF I play them. 8-9s is garbage. If we are talkkng cash table, put 'em in thw muck. There will better opportunities to make money.

FWIW I ran 8-9 hearts vs. Black A-A in the odds calculation App. 8-9 suited was 22% to win. I think your friend has no clue what he is talking about.

Edit: And furthermore- If you want to go against aces with hands like 8-9 you are a fool.

Heads-up, any hand is going to struggle against AA. Just the way it is. Suited connectors can be liquid gold in cash games, but you have to be at a loose table where you get multi-way pots. More players seeing the flop means more chips in the pot, which allows you to draw to straights flushes more frequently.

Yeah 89s vs AA is no way 40% to win lol.

I disagree that it's garbage you should auto-muck though. It's a good implied odds hand, so it plays well in multiway pots, and it's good for blind stealing and 3bet bluffing too. Nice little hand if you know how to play it!

Yeah i would definitely take the AA over 89 suited anyday lol.

If im playing a hand like 89s I try to keep the pot as small as i can preflop, if they raise to much preflop i just muck it. Now postflop if I didnt flop any sort of draw or pair muck them instantly. Now if you hit a pair or a flush draw it will all depend on the bet sizing for what i decide to do. for continuing with that hand postflop it all depends on your opponents and what you know about them and what kind of hand u flopped.

I believe 8-9 suited is 40% against an Ace with a kicker.

8-9 suited is a good hand to play against multiple people (4+), and can be a homerun at times. However, I wouldn't invest too much in the hand. It's a specualtive hand that has to develop so stay away if it gets expensive to see cards.
