Whenever I used to play these, I would stay away from playing the early stages unless I had one of the top 3-4 starting hands. You see too many people going all-in in the same hand. This also reduces your % even with a good hand of winning. Let all the gamblers and crazy's get themselves knocked out. If you can make it past the first break, your doing well as over 50% will have been eliminated. By the second break if you are still hanging in, most of the donkeys are out by then and only the better players are left.
Keep sticking to your game plan though, don't get into fights with big stacks unless you have to because they can easily bully you out of a hand.

I used to play these at poker stars where sometimes only 10 places got paid, they are very tough. My best ever finish in one was 13th spot.
I also realised that you are spending far too much time in these for so little reward so no longer participate in them.
Good luck in your endevours to play them.

Preflop game is non existent
People come here to gamble for free
People play with marginal hands
Don't ever try blind stealing, they will call you no matter what

Pretty much

Do no involve with going allin with 6 others, wait till that wave is over.
And then try to build up the stack wisely. Or if you like go allin with 6 others with the risc being out the tourney within few secs or have a reasonable stack to start with.
This is how I play it. The 100k freerolls from pokerstars I end most of the time in the money, you do not have to have a big stack. Starting with 1.5k, 6k should be enough to reach the money. The tourney of 03.00 CET has the less players usually.
Success.

Need a lot of risk from the beginning. Otherwise, you can take the time to waste.

As for me some freerolls like for example 100K i try to register after 2 levels of blind - because after that time many people left(not so smart with their ALL INS in all hands) and u could play more normal,

My advice:
-n turbo freerolls: open push with every AQ+ , 99+ and hope for increase stack ....if not good game :) ....and see how is paid the 10th place...if you like that , just continue playing it, if not...don't waste your time :D;
-in slow freerolls: rmin a lot with medium - strong hands.
Never put notes on this kind of players ....waste time and invest nothing...
And hope for the first place :)) is always fine paid :)

If a tourney is not so much important for me (and most of those 10000+ players tourneys don't have such a prize to be important) I play a lot of hands and if I manage to build a big stack then I play carefully. But if a tourney is impornant play only premium hands at the beginning. When you get to a prize zone it'll start more look like a real poker.

Until you hit the prizes only play the best hole cards, make sure that you always have a positional advantage. As a rule, at this stage the blinds are still small, and you have the opportunity to wait for a long time a good hand.

I always try to double up multiple times quick. The thing is that the freefall can last for several hours for basically almost no payoff. My theory is better to bust in 20min than in 4hours.

Quite easily, just stand around and wait for good hands at the start. All-in with QQ+ (or even JJ) or AK and you double up. If you are on a passive table where people don't madly go all-in, you can call with suited connectors or pocket pairs. Call me newbie for this but on IMO position doesn't matter very much here. If you hit the flop you keep playing otherwise you are out of the hand; position doesn't have a big role in such simple decisions.

Usually 60% of the players will just go all-in on those early stages and soon enough you will be in the money and people will stop going all-in and play tighter (usually takes around 1-2 hours on most freerolls for this). On these stages you have two options:
Either you continue waiting for big hands only and wasting time so you end up in the money, or (more recommended) you go back to the normal MTT strategy and start taking risks in order to get to the final table. Here is when you start to actually focusing in the game, trying to get reads, etc.

Now, there a lot of variables at play tho. For example, I'm used to go all-in with the QQ+, AK range and usually get 1 or 2 calls that allow me double up and survive. But it may happen that I'm on a tight-passive table and people simply fold, and I need to adjust my strategy to this.
Then it depends on the prizes too. If the prizes are money and the higher you go the higher you get paid, then by all means taking risks and being aggressive with AQ, AJ, KQ, and hands of the like is good play for me. But if the prizes are simply tickets, then I'll most likely fold those hands pre-flop in an aggressive table, because all I want is a ticket and my rank doesn't matter at all.

Oh and 1 more thing: if your stack is small, then disregard the "wait for good hands thing". You'll just waste time and chances until the blinds go up and you are eaten. Compare your stack to the blinds and go all-in with Ax and hope to get called by KJ or something. If you stack is that low, Kx or QT+ should be in your all-in range too. If you can't survive another BB, go all-in with any suited connectors too. Most likely you will lose but at this point you can't count on winning anyways.
There's also the chance that you won't get lucky and you are doomed. Sometimes I don't get anything at all and end up having to go all-in with almost nothing. Other times, like yesterday, I get stuff like AA, AK, AQ happening almost constantly. I even got an AA vs KK and poker with 99 that granted me some money. Luck has a weight on this too. Most times tho you will be in the middle ground and getting fair-to-good hands 20% of the time, which is what you want.

Freerolls are easy and I feel comfortable playing them while watching TV, at least for the 1st one hour. I always get a ticket on the Hubble freerolls at PokerStars, although I never seem to get more than $.5 on the 100K ones :(

I have spoken on this play on PokerStars especially if you want to get a good place to play a little tight in the beginning, even those who do drop out of all-everything

Don't :) A waste of time if you ask me. Not only because of the 10k but normally you can only win a couple of dollars, that is IF you are lucky enough to get to the final table lol

The first 40 minutes of tight play because many autoresponders will be in each hand.Wait for aggression against another player and catch it on the slow-playing,because In these tournaments are always a lot of aggressive players who go to the bank with junk cards.

i try to build a stack early with premium hands, pay attention, bunch of sit-outs and donks to identify, after that i just play my regular game, i have played many of these in my early poker days, i learned a lot. i use freerolls to build bank, i do not deposit. it does suck that you play 6 or more hours and win $1.50, but i am retired and lazy, i don't mind.
