So here is an interesting question/topic...

How much money do you guys think is TOO MUCH to lose? In other words if you lost x amount of money, would you stop playing entirely? What would you do? Would you limit yourself? What amount of money lost would tell you that you just are not good enough at poker to be playing for money?

I made my bankroll from freerolls and then micro MTT's on fulltilt - So I have never lost any money that was mine to begin with so I have no personal opinion about this topic thankfully.

But just to speculate I think Some players have lost millions and kept playing and some players lost 50$ and stopped,
I dont think their is a defenite answer to this, If your super rich and just lost 10k its nothing to you, If your work at mcdonnalds with 3 kids and lost 4k I think its time to quit haha =).
IMO to the average guy with the average job if you loose more then 1k its time to say goodbye

In general concensus any amount of money to lose that you couldn't afford to lose is likely too much. Basically meaning if you are loosing 100$ that was suppose to be part of a payment on something then it's too much.

On the same note you have taken a good step in comming here to help improve your game and if you can limit yourself and have good BRM then you should be ok if you are able to make the initial deposit without it effecting you financially. To a degree you can consider it an investment, but also think of it as a night out whereby once the night is over (you have deposited the money, or set aside for live play) then consider it to not exist outside of poker.

Clear as mud, essentially its diff for some people than others. Play as cheap as you can while learning, take this advice from someone who did not :(. You can certainly limit yourself, when playing so that if you have say 100 then force yourself to stop playing for the day if you go on a swing that puts you down 20$ or something along those lines.

Guess enough is enough when you have had enough of losing to either give it up or make a chance and refocus to get on the winning side of the fence. The later is me at the moment, was at a point to quit altogether or force myself to focus and play smarter and managed a br. GL

If you have solid bankroll management for your games and you can beat them then nothing is ever to much. I've had tons of downswing's, ranging from regualr 20-30 buy-ins upto like maybe 80 buy-ins but have come out of them.

You should never be losing to much it effects you to the point where you question your game. If this is the case; then likely you're playing in games you can't beat and should be moving down if it's a consistent loss of money.

If I lost all my bankroll; I would consider this to much - but again this would never happen unless I was tilting badly and playing way above my bankroll.

I can deposit but I'm playing only with freeroll money to try and minimize the fear of losing, I love how sharkscope says I suck and have a horrible ROI when I've never deposited a dime. At the moment my ROI is infinite, I have nothing invested.

Regarding how much loss is too much, I would say that no two people are the same. For me, I would have to take into account how I lost and if it was because of major leaks that I knew about but couldn't seem to plug no matter how hard I tried. If I'm not improving even after sustained and correct effort, then the loss would be too much regardless of the exact amount because I know that I would continue to lose if I continued playing.

This is entirely dependent on the person themselves. Someone could lose over a million like Iildur and thats nothing where as some small grinder could lose 100 dollars and that could be a ton.

It is all relative to the size of your income. That is why high rollers play high stakes. They have the money to lose and there is no thrill for them in winning low stakes as they aren't playing for the money exclusively and can afford to roll out after a night as a loser no worse the wear financially.

Personally I have never lost long run at poker so I can't say to you what is enough for you or me. It has made me some money but not all that much considering the time involved to amass it playing low limit and some MTT.

When I am playing a ring cash game usually limit I sit down with at least 40bb and if I lose 1/2 of them I walk away from it for awhile. So I guess my limit is based on the action and results of each session more so than the overall amount lost. This way I never lose that much at any one time and I come back later and make it up and move on. It is when you are not playing well or just not getting cards that you try to make up your losses in the same game and that is not a good idea to try. Cut your losses and come back later. From a BR management standpoint of what is too much to lose I guess.

I believe it depends on what you expect. If you say for example, I'm going to start with a bank of 500$, from which I put from my own money, I would do everything I could to avoid losing it all. If I lose, I will stop playing, until I earn enough money to replace my bankroll, with an amount that won't affect ne emotionally, in case I lose. You can see it like this: I pay to play, if I lose, I stop playing, GAME OVER. Bad luck and I will try again another time

Personalley, I have never invested money of my own, everything I earned i won it in freerolls, so I actually won't suffer any loss, in case I lose my bank

That's a varying-answer question. People who risk a lot tend to handle higher losses, those who are not used to such don't lose as much (or if they do, they aren't happy.)

play only with spare money what u can afford to lose. And if u lose continous u should learn the game first by reading some good poker book, watching videos and checking hand history. Variance will make u lose from time to time , so stop the session at a point u defined before the start.

I think this just depends on how much you want to improve as a poker player. Everyone is going to lose at some point. You just have to stick to your limits. I have won 10k then lost 5k over the next week. I have lost 1-2k in a day and I am still playing. It just depends on the person and their willingness to throw more money down.

honestly ... I am not in a position where I lose so much in how to quit poker...but I think when you see that you turn to certain things in your life and principles should stop....like to sell to play .... or lose your job.....

I think If I lost a 2 grand bankroll in 50NL
I would be seriously pi**ed off.

In reality I dont think its a super big issue if you lose your 3 figure sum bankroll if your a good player.

because you will get more big cashes if you play tournaments sooner rather than later and then start over..

Im more open to taking risks when my bankroll is small. once it becomes over 2k that is when serious grinding for a decent amount of money becomes a focus.

In the process on making that I have no problem investing into satellites and mtt's
