It depends on what type of game you want to main (SNG, MTTs, or Cash) and where you want to start.
Since I main MTTs, I'll focus on that. Usually, a solid BR for MTTs is 100 buy-ins. So, how much you deposit, 100 buy-ins of that should be the stakes you'll start at. So, if you're thinking of depositing $50 and want to follow good BRM, then you'll have to start at .50 MTTs.
However, if you don't wish to start at the .50 MTTs, then you should consider depositing more. Also consider your skill level. If you know you can beat the .50 MTTs, then jumping to the $1-$2 games are fine because they're very similar. However, I wouldn't jump from .50 games to $10 games because there is a huge skill gap.
Finally, when it comes to BRM, it really depends on if you don't want to reload anymore or if you have no problem reloading. If you don't wish to reload and want to play off of only a single (or final) deposit, you should make your BRM standards a bit more strict. So, maybe 200 buy-ins. But if you don't mind making more deposits if you need to, then your BRM can be a little be more loose. Between 50-100 buy-ins. Or even less if you wanted.
