Hello! Always wondered how much it would cost the novice player a few lessons from a professional!? And do 2-3 lessons a novice player, or should be at least 20-30?: поздравляю:

More sessions will be more effective ofcourse. But 2-3 could be good also. The price is really different at each coach. Just spoke to one recently and he was doing 300$/h.

Most ive seen range from 50-100 an hour.

Quite pricey. Would be nicer if it was more affordable, then it would be something I would consider. But I rather save $500 for a buyin of 2-5 then get 5 hours of advice (unless its gonna change my game completely)

I just don't think 5 hours would be enough for me to justify it.

I would want 10+ hours for ~200 and I would sign up.

I think for a beginner it is not possible to pay $50-$100 an hour so books and videos are a better option. I think coaching applies better to already well skilled players who just want to step up their game a bit more.

for a novice player , you'd learn far more from a couple of months subscription to grinderschool.com and post hands here regularly than paying for an hours coaching.grinderschool have lots of videos aimed at the micros whereas cardrunners and deuces cracked etc tend to be aimed at small and mid stakes upwards.

It all depends on your played limit, good inexpensive coach will be cost 50-100$ one lesson... The higher the limit, the more expensive price..
My advise if trainer need for micro or low limits, enough books and free vods to be a profitable player..

The problem is it wouldn't be worth the coach's time (if they're any good). Think of it this way, why would I take less pay than what I make at the table to go teach someone? It's easier, relatively speaking, to just go sit and play my game than to try and analyze someone else's, work on their leaks, etc.

If someone is willing to coach you for $20/hour, they probably aren't worth it.

I have a lot to learn in poker. But for me to hire a coach well, I'd have to know the coach was worth something. But you will pay big $$$ for a coach that can really help you compete at the top level of the game. And you have to wonder at some point whether the coach is helping you fine tune your natural talent or trying to turn you into a clone of himself. The best teachers will recognize a person's natural talents and try to mold that raw talent by catering to that person's strengths and weaknesses: a bad teacher could conceivably inhibit one's natural talent. I think you have to be careful about who you allow to mold your poker thought process. You will in the end be your own best teacher; BUT, you have to analyze your play and be constantly on the hunt for leaks. If you come to a point where you think you have no leaks, then there is probably a problem: EVERY player has leaks. Go back to the drawing board and attempt to see what you failed to see before (unless you are already competing at the very upper echelon of the game, making millions consistently in which case I might believe you've plugged most of your leaks: but even in this case i would not believe you've plugged them all....there is always room for improvement!)

I wish i could afford a coach. But since i cant i try to coach myself.Reading a lot of good poker books also helps.I like what punctual said about being your own best teacher.Being a humble student of the game also helps a whole lot.As soon as i get too confident my play starts slipping.(confidence is good in moderation).

I also thought of getting a poker trainer before but they are so expensive so I gavee up that idea and settled for free internet videos and poker websites. I figured out that if you really want to be good at it you have to learn on your own. It'll take more time but for me I guess it works well. But if you have the money then you can really hire one. Ace Poker Solutions is a place I could recommend.

This is a good question , nice post .

Id like to ask this, when looking for a coach :

1) what does one look for in a coach
2) what makes him a good player / coach
3) should one consider what type of playing style the coach plays compared to yours ?
4 ) I find it better to have a player /coach that plays similar to your style
that will give better and more informed information .
5) How does a player really know what style of play is really good for them , compared to what one may think is the right style .

I am curious as to what others may think of this ?

Good Skill at the tables
