It happens to me all the time. I have a good hand on turn or river, my opponent goes all-in or bets a lot and although I'm sure that he has a better hand I call. I don't know why.
Just in case or to find if I was right... :/

Anybody have the same problem?

How to stop doing this? :D

It's hard to explain. Most players "getting married" for a good hand. It's probably a line between pro and amateurs.. As soon as an alarm sounds .. FOLD! :)

As long as being right is it's own reward, keep on passin out them hard earned chippies. No real secret to stopping, the decision is yours to make. Keep in mind, just because your sure, being psychic is a blessing isn't it, folding isn't always the correct play.

Free roll play is emblematic of this problem, of course. When you don't have anything to lose it is hard for some to give up their hand.

Yes i had the same problem. I used this problem to figure out what my opponent has. A lot of times i would call just to see if I was right. It has paid off now because when I think my opponent has a better hand than me, I know i'm generally right. So if you want to stop, only stop when you feel you have lost enough chips to know that you are right when you feel your opponent has better cards. It pays off in the end.

Maybe you encounter many coolers and you only remember the times you called and you were behind and if this is the situation then there is nothing you could do.
But,if this isn't true then you need to narrow the range with which you call all ins because this mistake is a serious leak in your game in the long run.

Yes, that's always been the toughest thing for me. There's another thread here that asks if your game is evolving. I said 'yes' mostly because I'm getting better at resisting that urge to make the big call on the river (when I KNOW I'm beat 95% of the time).

I see a lot of players doing what you are describing and i can't find a better way to describe it than "getting married" to the hand :D
If you are playing at low stakes like I am it might be an idea to try tournaments. After you have been in it for a couple of hours you start getting invested even if the buy in was very low and you are less likely to waste chips just to try to get that magic river.
Good luck!

at first I was manipulated by I want to see his cards but now I say forget it unless you really think you have him beat or he is bluffing if not you fold and fold with over cards of your pair don't be stubborn that's all know you have to laid it down best at advice easy start with this that's how I find myself doing with no problem fold AA,Kk,QQ top pairs easy even if you think you have them beat or not do it I mean do it fold for maybe one day or 2 or 3 then on the long run you will find your self not calling it little pairs you be set to just fold like automatic with an over pair

2 things

You have to improve your hand reading, put the villain in a range pre flop, flop, turn and river. When a player is very good, I preffer to be out of this hand. And another thing is to know your oponent a lot.

most monsters are unavoidable losses as to play them right is to risk losing a lot.

Don't feel bad for the loss in itself feel bad if it was clear you were outdrawn based on how the other guy played and you called 'just to see'.

you have a great talent to understand what your opponent is playing with and this gives you a great advantage. Now learn how to fold.

What I've always done is take a second and really look at what hands beat you. Many times if you actually look, it is A LOT. If that is the case, I certainly would consider folding with my tournament life on the line. You have to put people on ranges in poker, that starts with what could they have that beats me and how likely are they to have came into the pot with it.

Step one: Identify what hands beat you
Step two: Range your opponent based on his line of play which of those hands he would have here, better hands, worse hands, and bluffs
Step three: Look at the price the pot is laying you and determine if you are getting the right odds to call based on the number of combos that are in their bluff and value ranges that beats you
Step four: If youre getting the wrong price, muck it!

You have to see what kind of texture board it is. Is it possible that they have a set on the flop and you turn the flush but the board pairs on the river. Then they raise all in with a full house. So with something like that you know you are behind and should fold your flush hand. Especially if you are playing Omaha.

After the hand try to review it and see if it was a good call or not. Having lost the hand doesn't necesarily mean that it was a bad play. Let's say you think you will win the hand only 30% of the time, then having pot odds of 1:4 would still make it a correct call.

But if you we're sure that it was a bad call before you made it, then just don't make it. Sounds easy, but improve your discipline a bit and it will improve your results a lot.
