When I watch poker streamers and youtube videos, I notice a lot of players making comments like "we can have A9 here" or "we can have 67 suited here" or "he can have A10 here" etc... I assume this is the players putting themselves and others on a range, but how do they come to the conclusion of what these players' ranges are? Are they using specific HUD stats to make the assumption, or more poker theory based on common positional ranges?

A mixture of the two if they are using a Hud along with knowing the villain type they are playing against. You begin with a range and then define the ranges street by street to the river. Being aware of what your range looks like to the villain is only good if your playing a villain who is aware of the range you can have in a specific spot. Other wise you just want to narrow villains range and be aware of what their likely holdings are to best extract value from it.

Its a feeling a judgement thing. You take into account the bets that were made, the player you are playing, past experiences, position, the cards you would have played in that position and how you would have played them. It is a massive gathering of all the information you have at hand and then your best estimate of what he has. With practice you can often be very close to what he has.

Thanks for the response! Is the best way to narrow a villains range just through experience? Or are there resources that describe how to do this?

Bet size

The cards are thought according to the size of the bets, to evaluate a player is fundamental for survival as well as knowing how to fold. Nice topic.
