Hey, thank you for entering the den of my thread.

The shaman had a visual quest earlier this week, and in the midst of his trip, he started this magical and wise rambling: "O' the light is so beautiful, wait who is that? Daddy? Oh i've missed you so much daddy.... Poker? What about it daddy? Are you asking me if it's important to think in math? How would i know that? Cardchat? What is that?... A poker forum you tell me? With loads of clever people able to answer ANY question?... Noroma, come here... You are the chosen one, you must help me and my daddy out, go on a quest to find the answer to my question - GO NOW"

And here i am.

Is it important to think in math? I have been playing for 3 months, with a bankroll only just this week.

I keep in mind the math when i play, and when i do something, but i don't think in numbers, i just have a rough estimate feeling of when it's not tooo crazy to go in. Is this what many others also has, or are you actually calculating the exact numbers?

It definitely helps to achieve more in poker, but if you don't like all the math thinking you can just get holdem manager or search for any , possibly free software to help you and calculate the things you want.

I hate math. I just memorized the most common things I need (odds to flush draw, straight draw, etc) and just roughly estimate the rest. However, I'm not exactly an expert player, so what do I know? I agree with the previous poster. I recently purchased holdem manager and it will do all the math you need and then some.

Math is in my opinion absolutely the most important factor to the game. The ability to calculate outs in a poker hand and the ability to recognize patterns in the villans plays are essential to becoming a successful poker player. In the beginning it can be good to think in the exact numbers so that later on in your poker playing it becomes easier to make rough estimates of your outs quickly. A good way to practice this ability is to go to pokerstars Pokerschools twitter site. they often post hand scenarios were your job is to calculate the outs.

Math is extremely important, most especially probability .

u need to calculate, more or less, what are you chances to win, for that u must know at least the basics of probability

The mathematical part of the game, but if you keep thinking about it during the game you will go on tilt. I advise control the actions of your opponents and play with the odds calculator to help you along I some possible decisions.

I recognize most of the things you guys wrote.

When i play, i don't think in numbers, but i have rough estimates, which makes my decisions easier. But i'm not great at math, so i can't calculate the exact percentages of when i will hit my hand, but i have an idea. I guess my question is this - How important is it to be able to calculate these things perfectly?

When i play in a hand, i first look at what i have, what i can potentially get to improve my hand, and then i think about how many cards left in the deck that can improve my hand/ worsen my hand. I won't be able to calculate the exact numbers, but i have my idea of how big my chances of me hitting my hand is. Is that good enough, and is that what most people do?

I think most people do NOt do exact numbers - BUT they do use a formula and they know pretty much how far off their estimate is. For example I know my estimates are generally within a couple percentage points of the EXACT number.

So, do you use a formula and what is it? How close does your formula get you to the exact number?

If you can't answer these questions you are probably hurting yourself more than helping.

There is only ONE number percentage need to know and that percentage number is 50%. Math is totally obsolete when you play on a table online. ALL poker clients use a "random" number generator. You have a 50% chance of the client's "random number generator" screwing you over and giving the suckout to the opponent your playing against. ALL poker clients are set up this way to further entice the frequency of "random" betting. :deal:

THE HOUSE :withstupi DONK:withstupi ALWAYS WIN 50% of the time.
