I think math is very important for the beggining player to learn and understand, as you become more advanced then I think it becomes less important as it becomes second nature and you can start playing your true game. but there are many good players that say math is not important at all and its all by feel, and they do very well playing this way... I figure that if there is something to learn about the game you should learn it, and try it out in your game. why not? but in the end if your way of play works for you than that is all that matters.

Math is the core and most essential value of poker.
Every strategy loose, tight, etc to be profitable must have a firm basis in math.

Experience can pre-empt math to a degree but it really never does. When math is fused to your core game as it must be in my esteem then those situational extrapolations are math based at their roots. All poker is situational but math is not.

Poker math is a basic skill. Minimum, you need to understand pot odds, the odds to make your hand (including counting/ discounting outs), and implied odds. The reason is simple; we play to win money, not to win hands. That is enough math to beat a live 1/2 game or the lowest stakes online. Also you can easily memorize most of the percentages or odds to common situations, so you do not need to figure that out every time you play a hand.

Rather than make up some random hands, I suggest you do some reading, or watch a free video on YouTube.

If you take the game more seriously you may want to delve deeper into poker math and statistics. You can increase your edge by doing so.

In limit, it's the only way I know if I should fold, call or raise otherwise it's just a guess.

math is relatively important. but it is all simple math which is important. simple addition and subtraction as well as division and multiplication is all that is required to be a successful player

Math is a part of poker. There is also the psychology part.

For beginners, math is truly an essential tool. It guides you on your decision.

Ex.: Calling on the flop with favorable number of outs.

In chess, we have two factors- static and dynamic. So too with poker.

I would compare math as static and psychology as dynamic.

math gives you a foundation upon to build your poker house. but once you have that, it's more important to look for tells in betting patterns, specific types of players, etc.
The better you get the less math matters, but only becuase you intuitively know your pot odds, implied odds, out odds, etc.
