Hello,

I'm a little bit frustrated because I try to put effort into learning poker, reading books, watching videos and all, but I can't seem to get how to actually win at even lowest stakes. I just wanted to ask what should I do now? Am I learning in some wrong way or something else? It feels like I hit a barrier and I don't know how to climb over it.

Thank you.

If it makes you feel any better, I'd say at least 9 of 10 people lose when playing poker. The winner is the house, because you do not see the rake going in their direction.

One common mistake is people reading up and thinking they understand the game but still can't do the math or play their position.

The biggest mistake I see from newer players is playing out of position and getting trapped into big pots they committed themselves to.

My suggestions:- Play in freerolls and stay there until you start consistently start getting into the top 50 before busting, pref ITM.
- Get some support software. The more information you have on your opponents the better.
- Review your losses in that software. Understanding why you lost, how you got trapped, etc. This software will show you perfectly why position is extremely important.
- Really work on the math and theory until you can do it within a few seconds so you can then start reviewing the player and their patterns instead of trying to work the math. This takes time, just keep working at it. A;so, watch live games on twitch or tv, try and do the math yourself without looking / listening. For both players.
- Tighten your range of playable cards in all positions until you can do all of the above. https://www.partypoker.com/how-to-play/school/basics/starting-hands.html This is a decent enough guide to help you with selecting them. It's a very tight playing sheet of starters, but it'll allow you to instantly start seeing positive results.
- You can losen up a touch on the big blind and button if your odds are at least 3:1, meaning for how much you put into the pot, you have the chance of getting three times the money back if you spike. I advise you only doing this if your comfortable with the table and you're not short stacked. Just remember, if it's a multi-handed pot you equity decreases with each player. If there are a lot of callers or raises on the board and you got face card with a low kicker, just let it go.
- Rarely bluff and only bluff if you have a draw or something you can play, don't bluff with rags unless you know the player your up against is likely to fold. Plays like check-raise bluffing and stuff like that should be saved for once you have your basics down.
- STOP LIMPING IN
- One last thing. Trust your gut - If you feel like your beat, you probably are. Fold. Don't let pride cost your whole stack.

Have fun.

You need to make the right choices most of the time, to ensure that you earn more and minimize your losses.

In low limits you can not play using many advanced strategies, do solid plays and more basic.

you should review your plays to analyze flaws, if in doubt you can come here in the forum in search of other views and ways of thinking, I advise you to watch reviews of other players' hands, be it here in the Forum or on YouTube.

Study as much as you can about board texture, odds, implied odds, hand range according to position and stack, keep concentration even when not in hand, make notes, and try to predict the moves based on the circumstances involved.

Trust your intuition and good games...

Play Play Play. There is no teacher like experience. Keep a log of every hand you lose for analysis. What starting hands are you playing, and from what position. For starters, tighten up. Try a few sessions playing only premium hands. Remember, in NL it only takes 1 hand to make or break you. Be patient and wait for the winners- it costs you nothing to fold. Good luck

So I was kind of like you initially. I watched videos, read books, read forums, looked at articles, studied hand charts, everything. Here is one thing I learned that I hope I can teach you: PLAY MORE HANDS. That is it. I literally did about 2 months of research before I touched a card game. I lost money relentlessly for a few months. This morning, I am officially down -$.01 exactly. I am .01 from breakeven. I did not have my first winning session until about 2 weeks ago, and I have slowly realized what is working and what is not. The best thing you can do is to read the books and do the research, then PLAY THE GAME. I'm willing to bet you wouldn't skydive without hands-on instruction just from reading one article about it. Think of it the same way. Play low stakes/freerolls/low risk tournaments to get the hands-on experience you will need to be successful.

It is very, very, very different to read a book compared to actually putting the information you learned into use. Play the game, and continue to grow and learn as you go. Download poker tracking software so you can see what part of your game needs improvement. Keep reading, adjusting, and experimenting until you find a winning formula. Poker is about situational awareness, decision-making, and information. You might have the information, but that's only 1/3 of the game. The other two are learned by playing.

Have you ever looked into one on one coaching? You can send me a pm if you' like some details on how I managed to go from a losing player to a consistently winning player

Watch others THAT PLAY YOUR GAME AT YOUR STAKES.

Twitch could help. YouTube to a lesser extent. But the key is to watch the same stakes you play at. 50NL players are much different than 2NL players.

Record your games with screen recording software and play them back from time to time. Look for mistakes.

Study is important, but I think it's critical to pick one area and stick to studying and applying that one thing for a period of time. A week or two at a time.

Don't focus on results. Focus on your decisions. It's about process. Continually improving your thought process and habits.

For a little levity into your question of How can I stop losing
Simplest answer is “ To stop playing “
But I am sure you wanted just a little more feedback besides my sense of humor, so here is one possibility for you to try.
Try playing in very small sit & goes (meaning 6 player max) I have found that when only playing against a very small table it is so much easier to control and win.

You simply have to be better than your opponents. If you are consistently losing, you may want to lower your stakes hoping the player pool will be worse, or you have to keep studying/improving your game.

It is hard at first . Try getting into CCfreeroll club . Good tournaments where you can practice all those things you have been reading about . It seems you just need some time applying what you've learned . Give it a little time it will come to you . Good luck

How can I stop losing? There are many answers to that question ... and being very practical I would say that your first option to stop losing is to stop playing ...!
However, we all want to play and not lose ... there are some basic factors that you should check ... for example at the level you are playing and with what bankroll accounts ... another thing to take into account is to understand that you can not become a millionaire in a single day because that pressures you to take more risks and play middle hands in order to win faster ... obviously you will end up losing ...

Maybe you should take a course in poker. And what would an experienced coach say is not so

I'm new player, playing from 2 months, nobody teach me how to play. Have friends who playing from 8 years, but never asking them how need to play. My first registration was on Bwin, start to play 2 weeks with virtual money to see how work hand generator, after that make my first deposit with 14$ and start to play satellites with Buy-In 0,01$. They haved fast small satellites, on this satellite i start to win tickets for tournament with bigger buy-in, one or two tickets from 10 tournaments per day. After a motnh play in bwin i make registration in pokerstars and start to play only freerolls. Now start to play on 5 poker platforms. In one of them i make 7,47$ only from freerolls - is a small platform not too many players like pokerstars and is more easy too win something. In pokerstars for new player is little hard to win something and this is normal.

So what i mean, play regular and listen what tells you older players. Most important is to analize your game where you making faults.

I do many faults :) but still trying.

I'd like to give you some advice if you'll let me.
You should not give up playing and learning.
Write down the reasons that led you to lose, and then analyze.
What are these motives?
Did not you think?
Did you play too fast?
Did you think you had the best hand and did not analyze your opponents?
Are you very passive?
Are you very aggressive?

Think of these and other reasons and try to improve your shortcomings a bit.

You will certainly improve a little more.

Hey. When you lose, you certainly think that maybe you play badly. This is not always true. When you lose 5bi, you may can't play that day. Then there won't be one that you'll lose more and be upset. Good luck, buddy. I myself am in the same situation. About 4 years ago I played in the HU SNG, now I decided to try again. I put it on an account 40bi, but lost 15bi and lost the desire to continue. Next time... Just don't play when you're not in the mood.
