I try and choose my battles. Any good pair is good enough to go broke.

Hi.
It all depends on your position at the table, and on your opponents. There is no commonly accepted standard.
Good luck.

As already mentioned, an important factor is your position at the table, this is true for every hand you play, it is difficult at the beginning to learn, but studying this is worth it.

Carefully

I play JJ very carefully. I found out early on that it is hard to win with jacks on a regular bases. So, I try to play the pot small until I see the hand develop. This has kept me from losing to much with my jacks and I have still won with them at a fair rate.

You would have to ask how to play JJ with more information, like cash game or tournament. What the effective stacks are, how many BB you have.

If you have a hand history of how you played JJ, that would help with analysis.

Id guess it would still depend on his 3bet stats, stack sizes and stage but in a high number of cases it would indeed be the right play.

Just raise and dont go alll in and play on flop if you have good cards but if not then check or fold.

Dont fall in love with a good pocket pair. Always be ready to dump them as soon as you see any sign of strength from your opponent.Always play your opponent's hand, not your hand.
Sometimes you get carried away with a nice pocket pairs that you forget about other possibilities like a straight or a flush on other players.

Differently you can play, it all depends on the situation, your position, how before you played on players and on flop cards, whether there are high cards or low cards.

The Fish hooks..

Hi,

you really need to factor in - who you are playing, their image, the stack sizes, effective stack and bet sizing and also at what stage you are in the tourney..

JJ is a hard hand to handle. Its definitely worth a raise at some points, Its worth a call in other points. I play them more like a small pair. I will raise before the flop if no one else is in. I will call a 3-bet and set mine with them as well. If you do play them just be ready to muck them if you get too much resistance.

In my experience, the general tactics of playing with the pocket pair JJ:
1. Raise from any position in the amount of 3bb or call the opponent's raise. If there is a 3-bet, then fold.
2. Play better against one or two opponents. If three or more players are playing on the flop (not counting you), the pocket pair JJ loses its power.
3. In the presence of overcard on the flop (A, K and Q) it is necessary to make a check, call or fold on the raise. With a safe flop and no raises-you should play aggressively, squeezing opponents out of the game.

When I play JJ, there's always a KK, or a Q on the flop.
In spanish they are JOTAS and joto is gay, so just fold these fishhooks (wonder why they are named like that) or play them like a small pair.

If I have a good stack I play it aggresevely but if I dont I better wait a little to do my move, JJ can definetely be a very tricky hand and if you dont get lucky can mean your end of the game :(

Depends on position
I would play JJ out of position with a big raise anyday
In position or in the blinds I would raise less and see the flop- any overcards and a bet by someone and I fold
