My hole cards: 9Clubs JackClubs

OtherGuy hole cards: 2hearts KingSpades

Community cards: 8Spades 6Hearts 9Hearts 7Clubs 10Hearts

The software said the other guy won this Holdem hand with a straight (using only community cards).

But I have 7 8 9 10 J (using my Jack)
OtherGuy has 6 7 8 9 10 (from community)

So I have a straight too and mine is better

^Thanks for that

Sorry I am a bit of a noob.

Is there a glossary anywhere for hand terminology:-

2h ?

kh? (king high?)

He means your opponent probably had king and 2 of hearts. Which means he made a flush while you made a straight.

Kh 2h = king and two of hearts
Ts 5s = 10 and 5 of spades
Ad Qc = ace of diamonds and queen of clubs

If they say K9s the s generally stands for suited. Which means they both have the same color.

You have not correctly described your hand and you lost. There are no issues.

Thanks for the tips on terminology.

No my opponent had Ks not Kh

The software also highlights which if any of your hole cards were used. My 9c is highlighted instead of my Jc

The Jc should be highlighted to give me the higher straight.

I think it is a bug in their software.

I have a screenshot I can post.

There are so many things wrong with that site: horrible AI, capped betting at $300, the interface, etc. I wouldn't find it hard to believe that the hand evaluation routine is buggy. Writing a good poker hand ranking function, that can determine a winner accurately, is a lot harder than some people give it credit for. I would be willing to bet that you just found an edge case where this is broken. You both had straights, so the site thinks it's a tie. The site is wrong, but that's what you get for playing on such broken software. It's not the first time I have found bugs in poker software.

I was going to play until I could replicate your experience, but I quickly tapped out. Please, for the love of all that is holy, play somewhere else. Download just about any client, from any real money site, and play with their play money. pokerstars has a thriving play money community. It is free. You are playing against real people. You're going to have more fun.

There is one downside to play money poker. Poker should be played for something of value, enough that people care but not enough that it emotionally devastates the players to lose. You will find that many players just don't care about play money, so they aren't playing as well as even the penny games. But, it's still better than this site. Sitting around and randomly breaking your own fingers with a hammer is a better idea than playing on this site.

Edit: I did notice a hand where we both had the same two pair, I had the higher kicker, and it awarded the pot to the wrong player. This site is crap. You are worse off for having played it.

I still think you likely had lost to a flush. If you truly did lose, good thing it was for a free game. I would recommend finding another site. Even if you don't want to to deposit money, there are plenty of freerolls you can play that will give you something closer to a realistic game.

There is the hand

I agree about the AI.

I just joined a site playing real players and it is totally different.

But I am just learning a week now so I did not realise how bad the bots were.

Yeah, I believed you. Just bad hand evaluation routines.

Glad you are playing against real people now.

If you are certain he had Ks, don't play on that site again. Must have bad software
