When I am reading poker book reviews in Amazon, the typical 5 stars review goes like that: "yesteday I bought this book, read it and today won $500 buyin tournament using strategies from that book "

For me it takes weeks and months of study and practice to get any tangible results.
Am I mentally retarded or what ?

How long does it take for you to master new strategies from books ?

I need 2-6 months to master a new strategy. But it did not bring much winnings as I want.
Now I focus on individual articles, not books. Strategies are constantly changing.

I'm a quick learner for the most part. I've read a lot of poker strategy, but I find playing teaches me the most. The hardest thing to learn on my poker journey was bankroll management for sure. I was too reckless when I first started out. I learned the hard way, and I'm grateful for that. Otherwise, I'd continue to make the same mistakes with my roll.

No, you're not retarded. That "too good to be true" type of comment is often fake, or misleading. Even if it's true, you don't know the losses. Even pro players flaunt their winnings and hide their losses.

Effort is more important than talent. With constant effort you could make up for lack of talents. Even if you're behind, taking time to assimilate, in the end you do assimilate the new information.

We all have our own pace. I read poker strategy about twenty minutes a day, ten minutes at a time. If I go longer than that then I don't absorb the material well.

I've always got three books going in rotation, and I read each book three times. So I finish reading book A for the first time, then it's on to my second reading of book B, and after I finish that, it's time for my third reading of book C. Then my second reading of book A, etc.

If it's been a few years, I'll add an old favorite back into this rotation as though it was a new book.

There is no prize for having read the most books, or for speed reading. I try to get as much value as I can out of a book.
