Since i have only ever got one once and i saw a thread about them i thought i would pose such a question. If you have a royal flush how do you extract the maximum from it? Do you slow play it to the max? Do you lead out? What do you do? Maximizing value from made hands i think is the most important skill in poker even more so than bluffing as there is no point having good cards if you dont know what to do with them. So enlighten me please on this question as it will make for a good discussion.

when you have a royal flush, chances are that no one else has anything much, so you won't really get much value from it.

Do you really expect a good discussion from such a generic question? You think we can answer, "what do you do when you hit a royal flush?" How about a thread titled, "What's the best way to play a 10 high straight?"

And whatever you do, don't check back the river.

There are too many factors that have to be considered to even begin to answer that question. Is it a tournament or a cash game, what is the buy-in, stack sizes, blind levels, what do you know about the other players etc, etc.

It can't be answered generally.

I think the most value i extracted from a Royal Flush was the bragging at the table when i checked to show the others what i got :D. The "vnh" and "nh" an "wow" worth to check it down.

Few of my royals were all that profitable, you have to pray that your villain caught some sort of hand and is betting it, or trying to steal it from you, and neither of those things happen all that often when 3/5 of that royal is showing.....

But bragging rights rule....... :D

Split a bad beat jackpot.
Haha :)

Seriously though, if you are betting into somebody then chances are they will fold. They probably don't have a flush with at least 3 hearts on the board and 2 in your hand, and even if they do their flush isnt strong.

As a side note, at my work (Seneca Niagara Casino), we let Royal Flush winners spin the "Money Wheel." Prizes range from $100-$500. It's a lot of fun when somebody hits a royal. Had 4 hit last Friday night.
