For me I find paying attention to a players timing helps in getting a cold read on someone, and if you use this to your advantage make changes in the variation of calling and checking from your norm will change how people read you.

I know making use of notes function can help get a read on some habits on players but I wanted to know what tips you have on alternative methods or tricks you have come by in order to through others off.

Look, it all starts by the notes of the players will always help you mark something of their opponents. Some things you should watch out, how your opponents play, how much betting and how much they are willing to bet on the pots. This all makes a profile of his opponents, but varies from time and hand strength. If your opponent missed frequent hand it will try to recover at all costs and with hands theoretically weaker. Stay tuned to table details you always will override your opponents.
