Do you play ADD ON tournaments? If you do, what is your strategy, buy all the add ons possible or just go playing without them and try to survive?

I played and rebuy and add on torunament in 888poker that has unlimited rebuys and is allowed 3 add ons with 0,99$ each addon. I was with 12000 chips and in the break, all the remaining players buyed all the add ons. I just had to buy the 3 either. There were no alternative. Fortunatelly I finishid in a good positiona and received about 7 dollars profit conting the buy in and add ons payed to survive.

How do you do? The buy in was 0,99$

To begin with, it think it depends on your bankroll if you play rebuy- and add-on tournaments. Bankroll management is essential. http://www.thepokerbank.com/strategy/basic/bankroll-management/ They say you should only have 20 buy-ins in tournaments, but in my opinion it's more safe to have in between 50 and 100 buy-ins.

That being said, when you do play a rebuy/add-on tournaments, you should know that players with a bigger bankroll can take more risks in trying to build a big stack for later on in the game. So always check the rebuy-time and decide on forhand what you're willing to spend on the game. Also look at the prices ... are the lowest prices good enough to rebuy several times? When you have really strong hand and you're being confronted with a reraise, it's advised to go all-in more often, 'cause other players go more all-in with a coin-flip, because the rebuy-option. In general a more aggresive play in the rebuy-period.

Regarding the ADD-ON'S, it is the smartest to always take them. I play on pokerstars and I never saw a game where you can take 3 of them. So I'm not sure how to play with several add-on's, but I guess it's the same like with one. The ADD-ON makes that you have more chances to build your stack in the game and you are stronger when all chips go in the middle.

When the rebuy-period ends, you play a little more conservative, like in a normal game. But you can use the conservatism of the others to your advantage to be more agressive once in a while.

It is a good strategy. I play just like you said. The only precaution is about the bankroll management. I will read this article that you refered and take some precautions. Many thanks.

I only add on if my stack is well below the average at the add on time.

There is only really one game I allow myself to play involving addons and rebuys and it is the tourney that allows players to buyin once more and get the addon at the break. Have found that I am not loose enough for the rebuy stack game and have never got good at the dynamics it brings.
Think if you do not take the add-on you are leaving money on the table for the most part.

On a rebuy/add-on tournament I rebuy out the gate. If I bust out, I double rebuy and try again. If I chip up I use the add-on. So, in a 1.00 tournament I'm pretty much allowing 5.00 (1 entry, 1 rebuy, 2 double rebuy, 1 add-on).

I do not play to many rebuy tournaments because it seems like they are playing a free roll and go all in with crap and bust you out with some BS. But i would recommend that you set your rebuy limit like stated above so you do not destroy your bankroll on a couple tournaments. Good luck

great question I am struggling with this myself. For me it depends on the payout. Usually I try to make it to the break on my own, but if I get knocked out close to the break I may rebuy and will definitely choose to addon at final break before rebuys are finished.

I rarely try to play these tournaments, and if they do they rarely play rebuys

It is dificult to choose to enter or not, because in a 1 dollar buy in tournamente, as it was said, you may use 3 to 5 bucks to survive, due to the inconstance of the game [a lot of all ins and rebuys]. But in some cases, the final table is such good, as 300$ to the first and 30$ to the 9th. Sometimes may be a good bet, in other a bankroll destrution. I think, if you enter in this tournamente, you may have be prepared to constanly make add ons and rebuys.

i like having the option to rebuy and add on at the end of registration in the case you get coolored. i think a limit should be set though, 12 levels is too much. i will add on almost always but rebuy i set myself a limit of one rebuy before level 5. also depends how many chips you get. why rebuy when blinds are 250-500 and you get only 1500.

By the smal experience, I can say you almost always must to rebuys and addons to have good chances to make considerably decent run.

always take an add-on! The purpose of any player - to have the maximum stack which will allow "to press" opponents and considerably increases chances of a prize. Having taken an add-on, you increase the stack and approach this purpose. But in principle there can be also exceptions: if upon termination of the first hour your stack is much more, than at any of competitors if the add-on adds some percent to your stack, then it is possible to save money, the advantage of buy-in will be small, only such situation in practice will be quite rare.

That is a great strategy. I thought exactly rhis when I saw all the players making 3 máximum addon in the tournamente [each one with 10.000, making a 30.000 chips increase] and I made 3 too. This gave me a good advantage in the pressing and waiting the right time position. Thanks for the tip.
