One thing you DONT do is help some stranger when you are in a game. If you want to be a coach, play pro for x years and then be good enough to get hired by a coaching site. Why are you in a game if your objective is to help weak players? Sounds like you may need some help in poker priorities. You are in a game to EXPLOIT weak players, not help them.

^ this.

Just don't help people at the table. Do it places like here if you feel the need, but never at the table. At the table you're there to take their money.

Truth. I despise table coaches.

Poker is a game where you use your superior knowledge to take money away from people who don't have that knowledge. Inherently, coaching the players at your table causes you to lose.

Wasn't coaching.

I should have been alittle clearer in my op. I wasn't coaching.for starters, i was sharing about the ftpa freeroll and explaining that you had to do a sitnlearn to gain entry. Yup evryone is right i should be focused on gaining as many chips as i can. and any help offered should be in forum like this.

Really, chatting any at all ,during an online game will disrupt your game.Anything other than hi,good luck,at the beginning is a no no.
On coaching, theres nothing like experience. So,You can get a coach,or be a coach, but you have to jump in the water and pay your dues to really learn.

coaching or not...its best to stay foused on the game at hand. if u feel the need to help out a player on such a topic as u said...do so during break.

*sigh*

Nope, not even this. Helping people who haven't even managed something as simple as registering for an internet forum is burning money. So unless you can see some other +EV reason for helping them (like it'll make them like you and they'll buy you drinks or put in a good word for you with their hot sister or something) you just don't help them - during the game, on a break or otherwise.

Not to mention if his sister lives in, say mexico City and you and in Perth, what good will that do you anyway????? (Although that may depend on the quality of her webcam and the size of your monitor....)

And, its not just the fish you are (mistakenly) trying to "help" that makes this a simply wrong thing to do, but more importantly, it show the good players at the table where your head is at. It will make you look like easy money to them and put you on their list of "green" players, or whatever color they assign to weak and bad players that they want to target.

Next time I play flag football, I'm going to let the other team know that we're putting our fastest guy on their slowest corner, so that they can adjust and play us better. Cuz I'm just a nice guy.

No one at the table is your friend. Even people from CC and people that you are friends with away from the tables are not your friends once you sit down.

No advice at the table......EVER!

I've helped out a few on the tables before. Dickin' around in a micro game, seein' an address (city), noticing they're new > steer them towards a forum or other. Not from any particular play or whatever.... just felt like it. Convo. was initiated by them. I've even done while loading up a couple of freerolls (now I'm talkin' 'really dickin' around').. ship them $5 while sitting on their table, steer them towards a forum, a book.. whatever. I've actually done this sort of thing after getting donked out of an MTT, feeling a bit perturbed, feeling more like telling a player/players to go fk themselves, but then ship them $5 & help em' out instead. Pretty sure it didn't negatively affect my bottom line.
