Once tilt begins, players are well-advised to leave the table and return when emotions have subsided. When away from the table, players are advised to take time to refresh themselves, eat and drink (non-alcoholic) if necessary, and take a break outside in the fresh air.
If none of these work in lessening tilt, players are advised to leave the game and not return to playing until they have shaken off the results that led to the tilt.
The intent of the advice is to prevent the upset person from letting negative emotions lead to bigger losses that can seriously hurt one’s bankroll.
Tilt has to be taken seriously and one must realize immediately when being on tilt. Taking a break from poker is the best option: tilt has already ended many poker careers. Some players can win 6 times a week but on the 7th day they lose more than what they won in the previous 6 days. The progression in poker for these kind of players will be hindered because their anger controls them and they are not able to play their best poker all the time. One way to avoid this is to pay close attention to your playing statistics because you might start playing more aggressively and more hands than you did before. -Wikipedia ;)

I am telling you tilt is a horrible thing. I find myself more live that i can calm down because I am in front of players. If I am home, I break stuff.. I drink heavily and threaten to break my computer. All those factors lead me to a losing day... Then I go broke, then I take some time off and try to grind more freerolls to start a new bankroll...

Used to tilt quite horribly when I was learning the game and went through a couple ok keyboard amd destroyed more than one mouse as well.
You learn to accept the bad beats if not well at least calmy, after all it's only a game.
If you find your anger is boiling over, then walk away for while and do something different.

When I'm tilted I try to close poker and start doing something else - play some game or just read news or listen music. But that's not so easy, most of times I just start to play with highest stakes, if I win something then all is ok, and I start to play my game...

I have an xbox handy with a couple of different poker games where I can blow off the tilt while not hurting my bankroll.

I assume we're talking about online poker tilt, which is quite different from live tilt. In live games, the play is slower, and getting up from the table is a feasible option and there are sure to be some nearby distractions.

In online poker, you have to be quick in tilt recovery. I often go into "super-tight" mode and fold while playing another game I can be aggressive in without monetary consequences. Keeps me in the game so I can manipulate the clock (necessary tactic in a bunch of online poker sites) while I calm down.

Tilt! I love talking about this subject. Alright here we go. Get over it. Whatever is tilting you, get over it and get on with life. People who can't handle their emotions are either 2 years old at most, terrible terrible poker players, or women entertaining a monthly visitor. If you're not at least 1 or 2 of these things don't do things you know are stupid just because a bad player stacked you or whatever the reason you need a hug is. Those things happen to all of us all the time. Remembering some of the countless times you've sucked out on another player yourself can be pretty humbling and help combat tilt. Do whatever it takes. People tilt because one there's way too much ego in poker (some of the uh strategy debates around here lately make this apparent) and two they're way too results oriented. They play because they want to get rich and don't particularly care about how that money falls into their laps. I check my cashier once at the end of pretty much every session I play and get made fun of for it by my friends who peek at theirs every 4 to 6 weeks or whatever. If you're one of those people who are opening the thing every 15-20 minutes then grats my friend you have a problem. If you're in this for the highs and lows of winning and losing cash then hey you can't go card dead playing roulette, but don't try to pay poker with the real players 'cause real players play enough of it not to get worked up so much over standard **** or the fact that their opponents are putting their money in bad instead of good. When you go not even break even for 140k hands trying to pay the bills at stakes you smashed for 4 years prior then you have my permission to tilt. <micdrop>
