I don't know how long you have been playing poker online, but I have been for 13 years, and for 11 of those I tilted real bad. But when I came here to CC, that was the first thing I started to work on. It's not easy at all, but you can control yourself if you really want to. Losing your money should be a good reason to want to don't you think? For me, I could not learn anything else here until my tilting was out of my way, because I just stayed mad all the time. And I would be thinking all kinds of things that were the cause of my losing. Like, I'm a bad player, the site is rigged, no matter what I'm going to lose, and many other things run through my mind. You mind has to be clear of all this before you can be calm and win at the game. When you play a hand it's past, so go on to the next one. Bear told me when I came here that I had to deal with my inter demons, and that was all he said. I have dealt with them, and now I'm learning other important things, and my game is 500% better for it. Takes work my friend. GL to you and sorry this is so long

Losing is part and parcel of being a poker player.

It's something you have to learn to live with if you plan to pursue poker as a hobby, or perhaps develop your hobby into an income stream.

If you feel yourself beginning to steam after losing a big hand, take a minute or so to review the hand and get it from your system.

If you played the hand well, then you can draw solace from that and hopefully be pragmatic enough to move on.

If you played the hand poorly, then hopefully you can learn something from it and put it behind you until the end of the session, where you can then figure out what made you make the mistake and investigate if the mistake was a one off, or an indication of a fundamental leak.

If you find yourself unable to shake the feeling of tilt, then you simply need to quit your session and work on improving your mental game away from the table so you're not regularly having to quit sessions where things haven't gone great for you.

I like to have some music (not loud) and it really helps me.
If you play at least 4 tables at once, sometimes you don´t even have time to get angry.

more good advise papac, tks. I have learned to look inward and ask if I played that hand the best that I could? Being honest is the beginning for a better view of my being beat. Some lessons are not always presented as lessons. Slow down and review. We all have room to improve. Me more than others.--r

Losing sucks, but it never affects me. I can easily laugh it off because when I play, I'm thinking about long term and not worried about short term variance/bad luck that's bound to happen.

At a casino the other day, I was up about $400 at 1/2, bought in for $100. Got AA for the 2nd time in about 20 hands, first time I got no action. 2nd time, I raise PF, got re-raised by a stack of ~$150, one cold caller, I shove, ~$150 calls, cold caller folds. ~$400+ in the pot. I flip over AA, he flips over 66. Flops a 6 and takes the pot.

The entire time, I'm just laughing and congratulate him on his win. I think we even hi-5...and people were asking how I was so happy to lose with AA? And it's because beats like this don't affect me. The fact that he was risking 75BBs preflop with just 66 is great news to me because I know I can stack him most of the time with my big hands. If he over values 66, he's definitely over valuing hands like AX suited, A/10, KQs, KJ, mid pairs. I have just pick a hand that crushes his range and get paid off. Again, his short term luck got the best of me, but in the long run, I'm making so much money off of him.

-If you're making +EV moves when you're a favorite to win, you'll win more in the long run than you'll lose.

-Focus on the long run with poker instead of short term results. You get KK AIPF, someone calls with A/x unsuited and snags an ace. Maybe it was for 100+ BBs, your tournament life, whatever. It sucks, but seeing as you're a 70% favorite to win the hand, you made the right move and got unlucky. Unlucky is short term, skill goes a long way.

-How much did you really lose and how much is the loss really affecting you? If you're playing 200NL and losing $200 isn't that big of a deal-as in, it's not going to affect your life in a severe way because you still have savings, you can pay for bills, take care of life, etc. Then don't let that single buy-in get you because it's going to happen. You should also be playing within your BR for bad beats that do happen.

Again, think long term. In the same example above, lets say effective stacks are $200 (100BBs), at 70% to win, you're expected to win $1400 vs losing $600, for an $800 profit in the long run for every 10x this hand happens.

-Keep mental tabs on those people who are playing bad. Trust me, they'll pay you off a lot more than you pay them.

I have to look at it like this. It's either tilt and lose or control yourself and win. At least you will win more. I can't remember the last time I got mad at the table. Unless a player wants to talk shit after getting my money. That did happen more than once. And one even called me a donk, and he was the winner. He probably don't even know what that means. But anyway, to deal with tilt all you need is to know is that it's causing you problems, and then go to work on it.

Secret of keeping calm I believe is just through experience.

Play a lot of volumne and eventually you get numb when you see bad beats.

focus on the process of making good decisions rather than focusing on the outcome of the hand that happened. If you made a good decision but the result was bad so be it, you still have the positive of making that good decision.

Conversely, if you made a bad decsision but the result ended up well, then don't be happy with it, because you made a bad decision.

if you focus on the process of making good decisions, you will be happy all the time, since we pretty much always think we make good decisions :)

It's always hard when you take a bad beat. But if you play poker like a hobby, it's doesn't matter. Personnaly, I look the replay of the hand and sometimes I laught when I thinks about the call of my opponent. But sometimes, I realise that what i take for a bad beat it's juste a coin flip or a 60/40 and I learn about that.

Keep your calm and learn about your bad beat. It's the key to be a better poker's player

I usually focus on one point on the table at stare at it the whole time, like a statue. Think of fun stuff you gonna do later that day of something awesome that happened. Besdies your playing poker and you know you can always win or lose, especially if you lose a hand on the river. But how many times haven't you won a hand that way! :)
