I'm more of a HU SNG player but plan on switching to playing MTTs strictly. Ever since I got into poker and played everything from cash games, to MTTs, to SNGs, I've always felt I played my best at HU SNGs. I just like the satisfaction of seeing my bankroll steadily build up. Anyways, about steadily building a bankroll, I just now took a look at OPR and noticed some of the top players that go 11 games without cashes and then win something like $20 and then go another 17 games without cashing and their ABI is $74. How do you deal with something like this? Right now, I have about $800 on Carbon and plan on only playing tournaments ranging from $1-$3. I will be playing the satellites as well to get into bigger buy in tournaments. I just want really want to figure out how to stay focused when having 10-20 non cashing streak. Thanks.

It's a mental / emotional thing that some people are naturally able to handle better than others. But there can also be a desensitization effect over time; i.e. as you get more accustomed to it happening, it tends to impact you less. This doesn't happen for everyone, plus there are different speeds and different ceilings for different people.

Yep this and folding the winning hand tilts me the most... But hitting a streak of deep in the money runs feels awesome. You have to take the good with the bad. Yin and Yang and all that. But I am trying hard to find a way to never lose :)

You really just have to accept it. Think about just how ridiculously lucky you need to be just to FT a large MTT - how many flips you won along the way to be there.

Just remember that statistically you WILL go home early nearly all the time, if you're switching to just MTTs you must master your emotions because you'll be getting your deep runs smashed a lot. It's standard.

Being well rolled will help - with $800 on carbon you could play anything up to $5 entry and have plenty left in reserve but it's all about what you're comfortable with.

Of course, the best way to deal with losing streaks is just to run better :p

SNG's are a better BR builder but cant resist the allure of MTT's...
low entry high return...but the run between cashes is tough so I try
to minimize the amount or I bounce to a couple SNG's...

With MTTs, you're going to generally have a higher advantage with a higher variance than SNGs because there are fewer regulars but a larger field. Just have a sufficient bankroll and throw in a few SNGs if you're concerned about it.

As stated above, you just have to learn to acept it and deal with it.
It is a hard thing to go on a losing streak and do everything right that you can but still come up short.
It is just one of the many things that seperate tournament players from ash game players.
I get so tilted when I lose a big pot to some fiosh calling me down with ace high, and no part of the hand, but I learned to accept and take mental notes on players at the table and wait for my spot to take my chips back.
Nothing quite more justifying to get you off tilt than to take amplayers chips after they took yours on a weak hand or a bad play.

I'm actually going through a non-winning streak right now. I was going to say "in the middle of", but I'm hoping I'm more towards the end of it. It might sound odd, but I'm able to handle it because I'm used regular cashes, frequent final tables, and winning at least once every couple of weeks. Even though my little dry spell has been going on for close to three weeks now and is getting somewhat old, I am able to deal with it because of the results that I've been having. Again, this might seem odd, because I have been making constant deep runs and finishing within two or three places of the money. This would probably drive a lot of players crazy. I on the other hand remain encouraged, because when I go out it's on my terms. I feel like I could have cashed in quite a few tourneys during this time period, if I chose to. Not that given the choice of whether to cash or not cash in a tourney, I would choose not to. However, when deep in a tourney and faced with the decision of whether to stall, and try to fold my way into a min cash, or try to get my chips in good and go for the win, I have consitently forgone the former in favor of the latter. Even though it hasn't seemed to work out lately, I am content in the fact that I have been playing my game, and playing it well, to the point where I don't feel that it's a matter of getting a little lucky here or there, but rather not getting unlucky in a crucial hand. You just have to remain confident in your own abilities and in the fact that, if you are a good player, then a lack of success should be the exception, not the norm. But you also have to remain realistic and know that you can't win them all.

You just have to keep making the right moves and one day it will all come together. One day all your hands will stand up and you will recoup all your losses

Another alternative would be to go for 45-mans for a while until you get used to it. You can load up a few at a time, and your streaks won't be as long on average even though your competition will be lower than 9-mans of the same buy-in.

Keeping playing your game I think it will all come togheter,
Im also on a loosing streak on FullTilt with 10 straight no cash MTT's, I made all the right chooises and dominated the opponents and got sucked out on for 10 MTT's straight
it sucks! and hard to swallow but I just keep playing my game and hope for the best.
