I think you can just develop the style of play that best suits you. If you mainly have one style of play it is still good to switch up your style a little bit so you are harder to read. So I don't think you need to stick to one style of play all the time. Just try playing your main style and switch up every now and then during a tournament.

I don't have defined style of playing, every time it depends on tournament i play, or is it cash game or sng, player on my table, global number of players, my stack, i follow my guts, sense play and stuff, its not professional i guess, but i recommend you, do not stick into one way of playing, soon you will be exposed and than you have to change it into the game, and you wont do it right because you didn't practice. You can maybe try to find you idol player, and check his video on youtube, and you will see that every pro rich player our idols are not playing poker on the same way, you can see theirs hands with any card you want.

In the long term one style of play is loss-making, it must be variable and diverse, that the opponent may not read.

At first, learn basics, then when you know ABC of poker you should grow, there is not SYLE thing....You must flow like water you must improvise you must think and be flexible. If you play with as you said "STYLE" you are going to be predictable and not able to learn...

I think if you're asking this question, you're not at the level that should be thinking this way. Yet.

Everybody should be playing the same playing style !

That means making the correct decisions at the right time playing solidly and adjusting your game to adapt to the table dynamics

Eventually you want to be very dynamic and be able to play many styles. This allows you to adjust to opponents and differing table dynamics that you encounter. But as you learn try to F.O.C.U.S. which stands for Follow One Course Until Success. By that I mean learn one style, study it, practice it, observe how it works and doesn't work and try to understand why. Stick with it, once you feel you have a decent understanding change gears and try something else. Repeat this and eventually you will understand the varying styles you see others playing and you will then be able to adjust to them and Win! Good luck at keep at it!

ABC First. You need to learn all styles though, because there are times when you need to play everything.

If the table is super tight then you need to play LAG and same goes for the opposite as the table loosens up you need to go TAG. In tournaments, I am a very progressive player in style. I start out TAG until I get a feel for the players and may go NIT or LAG for a time and then settle back into a TAG form of play, but as the game goes on, you almost always have to go LAG closer to the end. This can be especially true around the bubble when everyone is trying to make the money and NIT's up.

I play different styles. It depends on sort of game. for example, when I plai final stage of SnG tournament, I play it loose and agressive. Almost in all other cases I keep tight-agressive style. Good luck to you!

I think that will make your style depending on the players at the table, the game type and position, starting hands, and many other factors, I think the game is changing every hand is individual, because it is against different opponents, and I just think that you will do your game according to the situation, against someone playing tight, but playing against others with a wide range of hands.Of course, you can select your starting hands carefully.

Of cause no, you should always change your style of game(from tight to loose, but agressive) to outsmart opponents. This is a way of player who wants to win lots of money.

what? course you can. you just have to know your tendancies. My tendancies are to play too loose so i have to reel myself back in alot of the time. Others may be too passive, if they know that, then they need to work to get more aggressive.

But both personalitys are quite capable of making money at the tables, but going to far one way or the other is going to be really bad for your game.

Op what you really need to realize is that poker is simply a game of maximising equity in most cases and making sure you are making fewer mistakes than the people playing at your table.

So with that said, no one style will allow you to become as profitable as possible on tables that differ drastically at times. Also trying to fit a certain style into a game structure is equally ineffective. Like playing tight poker in a hyper turbo game for example is a sure fire way to lose money.

So basically you need to learn to play in a way that maximises the opportunities presented to you. So how the table is structured, what the players on your direct left and right are doing and who you are most likely to butt heads against are really important skills to be able to do within the first orbit or two of a new table. The quicker you work out what you can get away with, the more money you will make.

Like for example, brand new table of a SNG. We know that in general the games we play are tight/passive. So we open with a strategy to be aggressive and open pots. But within a few hands we notice some very loose play, so we adjust and tighten it down from our original plan. This does not mean we overadjust into playing really tight and nitty. But we adjust our gameplan slightly to account for looser players. With more information we will adjust more from there.

Hope this babble helps

I've always heard you should do the style that's the opposite of what everyone at your table is doing. Also later in the tournament when only a few players are left you have to be more aggressive and play more hands, it makes sense as if there are only a few players they are less likely to have great hands than at a full table. Also when antes are added the pot odds can change things so it's worthwhile trying to play more hands.

@Amanda A I heard that too, but got me thinking that if I play aggressively with those who are more cautious I end up just taking small lots of small pots and losing occasionally on big ones. Is it a good strategy?

I've been looking for the style of play for themselves. In the end, I realized that the best style of this variety. First in different games on the structure you need to play differently. In the second variety in the game you become unpredictable for their rivals. Thus creating for them a lot of difficulties. Even in one tournament at different stages and against different players need to choose different strategies. I like the style of a maniac. Have fun playing with this style. But becomes highly dependent on luck. So I chose the variety in the game.
*****Ideally, you should own all styles of poker. And to be able to choose the right strategy depending on the structure of the game, the behavior of competitors, positions and so on. And remember that reading literature course important. But with experience comes the understanding of the game.
