Hi Poker people,

Reading many strategies to improve my game on freerolls and playing many tourneys, I realized that the survivor part is not that easy is not that hard, but you need to get a lot of chips on this part of the tournament if you plan to survive the second phase, were is to many sharks and they have scary stacks there.

I already cash on some tournaments but the earnings was so little meaning that break the bubble isn´t enough you need to reach the final table if your plan is to build a Bank roll.....

As soon as i find the way to play better the SHARK ATTACK part of the tourney i will came with some best practices, in the mean while if any one of you have some good advises are more than welcome.

best regards :jd4:

Strategy

Hi. Could you please explain how you are accumulating "a lot of chips" during the "survival phase". Are you being tight, loose? What range of hands are you raising with or calling with? In middle stages of the game (what I assume you are calling "shark attack), what type of hands are you playing?

My advice would be to mix up your play depending on your opponents. If the big stacks are very tight, then be willing to open up your pre-flop raising range. If they are amassing their chips by seeing every flop, then it is important that you tighten up your range, because they can be literally playing any two cards, so you want to limit the hands that could beat you (you can't change what they play, so play higher quality hands yourself)

Too many sharks in a freeroll is an oxymoron

Does it matter what level one registers at? Say for instance, you register at start of game or when late registration ends, which, in your opinion is a better strategy? I have been contemplating that for a while and was wondering if anyone had suggestions.

I NEVER late reg, some people think its a good idea but its a fallacy. Maybe its ok to late reg if all you want to do is min-cash, but whats the point of that. Too many hands that you miss and too many big stacks you have to go against, and blinds are so high your SS is very weak.

I don't recommend registering later than 2-3 levels. If you enter later than that, it puts you behind the average and you may miss some good opportunities to build your stack. Obviously, you want to avoid some of the crazy bingo players, but sometimes they provide good opportunities to collect a few stacks. :)

Lord, I´m using the hands and the positions that is recommended on the Tight Aggressive game, but my issue is that I get to the second part of the tournament with the average stack or some more, but there is always two or three players way beyond of my stack, and they really push hard.

How you manage that?

don't pay too much attention to the leaders... look at how many blinds you have and play accordingly. If the large stacks are being bullies fold mediocre hands.
if you are an average stack mid - late in a tourney you are in the top 3rd of the remaining players. Dont worry what others are doing, play your game. Push around the lil stacks and punish deep stacks when you can.

Being there for the opening couple of hands sometimes results in chances for huge equity.. Ex: it's very easy to get all your chips in the middle preflop on hand #1 with QQ+ against completely random hands

Need lots of luck to cash in freerolls. So the more you play the better exposed to that luck.

You can register any time, but late registration is worst than level 1 registration. Don't try to blef at beginning.

First I want to say hello to all you new members in this tread, and welcome to Cardschat. This is a great place to learn the game of poker, and the subject of how to play freerolls will come up many times. But just like freerolls, you can't tell how it's going to go from one day to the next with buy in MTTs either, and it's hard to get ITM much less the FT. I think you have to play in freerolls that are at least big enough to give the min of maybe $5. Just check out Full Flush Poker and you will find some good ones, and download here if you try them, and get an extra $100 freeroll from CC on Monday night. Matter of fact, they are having a $100 and $200 freeroll at 12pm today and I think a $500 welcome freeroll at 2pm. They are really geared for new and low level players. GL to you all
