Hi all,

I've only been playing 4 weeks, but I'm hooked and am taking my play seriously.

In the last game I played a player holding 66 33 went all in against me holding JJ 33.

My question is why was it a split pot? With me holding the best hand I thought I would have won the entire pot?

Apologies for what may be a really stupid question!

Thanks

Im having trouble reading that hand, how was he holding 2 pairs?
You can get beaten in the follow situation, not that case, just to know.
For example you hold 99, your opponent hold AT, the flop comes QQ KK 5, you both have 2 pairs ( Considering there is no hand 3 pairs in texas holdem or any other poker for that matter ) Queens and Kings, but he has a higher kicker than you do. Its an useful information to know as a beginner.
And use the edit button.

You can only have had 2 cards in your Hand JJ or 33 not both ? and so would have your opponent. And what was on the board (the other 5 cards)

I think you might have your information wrong because unless there was a flush on the board and neither of you had the same suit then it would have been a split. But as there was two 3's on the board that could not have happened. So your JJ would have won..

So your information on the hand is wrong....you can download the hand history from 888 and re check the hand.

You should have taken the pot. Are you sure you're remembering the board correctly?

Edit...unless you were player 9? (Looks like you were) You can only win as much money as you started with from each player.

im new to poker as well but do ok at 5nl, my concern for you is why are you playing at so high stakes, people reading your post will be on your tail, unless your loaded and dont mind losing a lot of money which you will with only 2 weeks play. respects johnny.:p

I hear you johnny. Tis the reason I haven't used my real user name and why I took all the names out of that play. So all we know is I play on 888…

Unless again I've missed something really obvious!? :)

I wouldn't worry about 'people being on your tail' and hunting you down at all. The major problem with you playing 50nl is that you are a real beginner and will probably lose a significant amount of money there. So why not play much lower stakes while you are learning?

How can a lower pair win

Just to add a little more info if there are 4 suited cards on the board and the lower pair completes the flush ,and the higher pair doesn't the lower pair wins.I won a five way pot like this once by being the only one to have a heart.

The first thing is you are playing stakes way above your experience will allow, Read about BRM here at CC, there are plenty of threads on BRM.

Pot 1 went to you. Pot 2 went to him.

You both won. He had you covered and kept betting with the other stacks.

I am almost certain that you had a chip difference. If someone goes all in with 3000 chips and you go all in with 1000 chips. You will only win 2000 total and he will get back 2000 chips because you couldn't cover the whole 3000 bet

you won main pot .. the pair of 6 took side pot .. in these low limit games i would suggest re-raising more then the min since more often then not they will call you when there behind and it makes it easier to isolate that first better and not let others in that can have trash and suck out ..good luck hope you do good at the tables .. low level no limit holdem...... tight.... bet aggressive....not to tricky ... = requesting lots withdraws checks.. in my honest opinion.....
