i have been on the worst downswing the last two weeks while playing $1/$2 NL.. at first i thought i was just playing bad but i realize i'm not.. i have been involved in so many coolers lately. i will have the second nuts on the turn and get it all in do to a re raise semi bluff to push me off my hand, only to have them hit the nuts on the river! Another example would be like last night.. i flopped a set of 8's another guy flopped a set of Queens and another guy flopped a set of 3's.. lol.. just seems never ending. Any advice on how to get into the right mindset? now i'm playing timid due to assuming they have the nuts or close to it. Thanks!

The downswing could be overstepped with more and more play. I read some articles about the situation and the main message was to play more and more to overstep the situation. From my point of view this depends on your bankroll because you never know exactly when will your downswing finish...

You should be playing less. The suggestion that you should play on tilt or while in a losing state of mind is very bad advice.

Yes, go out for a few hours, or don't play poker that day anymore. Give your mind a rest, and try again later/next day :)!

I suggest if you are playing that level ask a peer or pay a coach to review some of your losing sessions so you know for sure if its run bad or play bad.
Remember you are playing against a range of hands and not the nuts, don't skip on the mental effort of ranging your opponent.
We know that run bad and run good happens as standard in this game because the margins are so small.
Coping with the run bad is key as my coach points out regularly.
This might help

Just take a break. Stop playing poker for some time.
You need more patience.
And maybe problem is in your game play?
Maybe there are better opponents than you?

Please elaborate on how you reached that conclusion?

Also, how long have you been beating 1/2 for?

I say take a break if you feel like you aren't playing optimally because of the downswing and/or because what type of psychological affect its having on you as a player.

If you don't feel like your game is being affected too much and you're still playing optimally, but just on the bad side of variance, I suggest you continue playing. However, maybe reduce the number of tables you're playing or down down in stakes until you've built yourself back up and/or are on an upswing.

Another thing that might work, if you wish to continue playing, is to play something else. Maybe cash games need a break and you can play more SNGs or MTTs. Basically a break from the normal routine.

and some practice, while your taking a break from online poker, catch up and ready poker books like polished poker.
just stay away from your computer for a while.
