I'm a newbie at Holdem and am playing the practice tables at 888.
I just saw the following scenario and realised I didn't know why the pot got split after the showdown:

Player 1 dealt KD,AD
Player 2 dealt 3H,3S

Player 1 goes all in 1336 pre-flop
Player 2 calls all in 600 pre-flop
Board is dealt 8C,5D,2C,2H,2D

So player 1 has 3 of a kind twos
And player 2 has a full house twos and threes

Yet the pot gets split with player 2 getting 1204 and player 1 getting 732
How come player 2 didn't win it all? Full house is the higher hand?

Thanks in advance for enlightenment!

It wasn't really a split pot. First note that Player 2 must have posted a $2 BB. Since player 2 only started the hand with $602 he's not entitled to win anymore of player 1s stack than that. So player 2 win his $602 + player 1s $602 and the remainder, $732, gets returned to Player 1.

The most you can win from each opponent on a single hand is the amount of chips you have put in the pot. Player 2 was all in for 600, so the most he could win from player 1 was 600. The 600 bet + the 600 won = 1200. The 4 chips were presumably from the blinds.

The chips player 1 put in above the 600 needed to cover player 2's 600 are simply returned to player 1.

Thanks both for the clear explanation. That makes total sense now.

real split pot question

ill never understand how so many watch this occure and im ever the only one asking or noticing. this question is related to zynga texas holdum. now basically ive had my favor and reverse and there must be a simple answer.. only specific hand i remember was trip 5s both me and 2nd/spliter my second card 8 his 3 and dealer splits. another hand was two pair one on the board and another half of second pair also on the board say 5s on board, and a 8 on board he carring 8-ace and i 8-10 the pot goes to him.. ive seen this random splits seemingpy random in tripz single pairs and two pairs. is it decided by dealer, ive watched for tippers to be favored but havnt kept a very close eye on it as of yet.. either that or the only other thing i know for sure is when i play high stakes i always seem to spilt 50/50 with high card.. and almost always lose with a low card.. what is the ryme and reason behind this. sorry for spelling errors my screen is cracked gorrilla glass if u have ever experiences this u know what i mean, as well as theres now these black spots like under the screen that seem to spread and move.. so i again appoligize, also i suck at spelling :p
