I've played a lot of poker this weekend there was about 4 times I knew I should have folded but couldn't ,I'd have a set and someone would bet there whole stack into me I'D look down the would be a flush on the board, and my inner donk
would say "man that's a set you can't throw that away"hit the call button there it is busted lost a big pot and down to fumes it's like I build stack and just give it away,is this just part of the growing process,I'm starting to think the fold is what makes the difference between an average player and a good player.

Making good folds is probably one of the most important factors in differentiating an "average" player from a "good" (let's say a small, winning) player. The other stuff is probably what then differentiates the "good" from the "elite" (really big winning) players.

Try keeping your hand off the mouse until you've mentally made a decision about what the best play is. Then move your hand to the mouse and click the appropriate button. A lot of mistakes made online can come from letting your subconscious take control, and with your finger right over the button this sometimes doesn't allow your conscious thought process to kick in. This can certainly be tougher if you're multitabling, but try cutting back on tables and working through hands this way. Part of creating strong automatic lines/processes is having strong fundamentals, which come from conscious, deliberate practice and thought processes.

Don't be afraid to take some time to think about your decision. Even if you think it's an easy call/fold/raise, maybe take an extra few seconds and second guess yourself.

Also, saving chips is a huge part of winning poker. You definitely need to win chips to win, but not giving away chips and saving bets plays a bigger role.

Hello!

I think almost everybody have had some issues with this sometime during their poker career... (I still do). It is a crucial thing to learn and is indeed one of the things that separate a winning player from a loosing player.
The knowledge is hard to gain, and it usually wont come cheap.
As Scourrge says, take a break and think everything trough before clicking the buttons and things will usually be clear.
Good luck with getting there!

Cheers

Obviously you don't want to play reckless poker, but you have to make sure you don't go too far in the opposite direction and play scared.

If an opponent knows you lay down at any sign of aggression, you will lose.

just take your time to chose the best hand préflop and take your time to know what to do at the flop. don't play everything everytime until the river..

The key question here is which of those 4 hands you should have folded because you were -EV against the opponent's range, not his actual hand. Sometimes, the making a good, mathematically +EV play results in losing more than if you'd made a worse decision. That doesn't mean you should have chosen the latter.

Back in the day you would see a lot of players unable to fold good hands. They would have pocket queens, say, and the flop would show an Ace and a King and they would call a big raise because of their "strong hand"... With all the resources available such as this forum, you see it less and less. Players are better now. However, no matter what, it's still hard to fold a set, even if you think you're behind....So good luck trying!

Terry your bang on there. The players that don't learn to fold will forever be breaking even and losingI

I always give credit for 3-bets and early raises until im given a reason not too. Im folding weak pairs In a 3 way re raised pot also broadways OOP

Alot of players nowa days are pushing medium pairs and Aces with a premium pair they are much more likely to try and extract value by 3-betting unless its multiway.

So my natural precepted range is ace high/medium pairs when facing a push 2ways in a pot

help save me

I'd like to think everyone for there comments ,originally I got on this forum so that I could play in better free rolls I feel like it has made me a little better, not quite good ,but better, more than that it has given me a better idea of what the game is all about and what it takes to be a good player." If I see further than others it is because I stand on the shoulders of giants"Isac Newton.
