FWIW: The live players I encounter are some of the worst poker players known to man. They give money away.
However, I am a live player primarily. I can't get the reads online like I can live. Live players sometimes have a tough time switching to online. I think this is because the average online player plays a better game than live players. You are going to have to gain some experience, and be able to recognize betting patterns. You must also learn to exploit the fishies.
Like some of the others said, brush up on your theory. Learn as much as you can.
Edit: I forgot to mention; Study up on maximizing value. It is essential to keep the calling stations calling, and get the most money possible from your monsters.
This is what I consider to be one of the most important things in poker. Every time you wake up with a huge hand, think about how you can get the most money in the pot with that hand, considering how your opponents play, and their tendencies.
