Play more with a proper BRM and you will see if it's bad luck or lack of skill.
You can't base this on 'some money tournaments'.
Freerolls require a slighty different play than real money games, because you will encounter a lot more maniacs. I don't know what your current playing style is but I recommend a really tight one for freerolls and a slighty looser one (but still tight enough) for real money games.

Whenever I play a large field MTT, I just ask myself "How will I play to get ALL of the chips on this table" yea you will probably never get all of the chips of the table due to various factors out of your control but for simplicity sake that is what I do. Then I watch how the tablemates play and take note of their possible leaks and try to exploit them. Don't think of it as real money play money whatever. They are CHIPS. They are your WEAPONS. Think of how to best use them to destroy everyone. Sometimes you have to tighten up a fair bit. Sometimes you play like 70% of hands. Just watch the table and play. Don't think too much about other things, in the money and what not. Top MTT players make ITM only about 15% of the time. Everytime you move a table ask the question again. How do I destroy this table now.

Play money, so not freerolls, these type of games are to get basic concepts of poker, hand strength etc etc

when you hit the real money stages, you can do a freeroll (which is not the same as play money) and this teaches you a bit more about hand selection
Then you have to move on to the next step, its no longer about hand strength, but its "opponents hand strength"
so once you make it to real freerolls and extremely low limit MTTs everytime your opponent makes a move, look at your hand and ask yourself, how does my hand comare to the opponents range, your opponents arent always looking at your hand strength, and they definately arent taking into consideration agression, so you simply play your hands when you feel your hand is beating your opponent

as you get a greater understanding of this you can and will start moving up the stakes, and eventually as you move from micro to low stakes, suddenly more and more opponents are thinking about your hand strength, as a result agression becomes more and more important, however not too much agression, again its the next stage to learn

to summarise, continue playing micro and freerolls and try and develop your hand reading abilitys, put opponents on ranges and when you know your ahead find a way of making them pay

My 2cents... your expectations are a little faulty.

Being good in play money games does not mean you will be good in the real money games as the player's capabilities are significantly different.

It would be like playing poker on one of those cheesy poker aps on Facebook and then assuming you could instantly enter the wsop main event and do well... "Just because you manage it on facebook against 12 year olds".

play money is very different nothing to lose, that being said turbo tournaments are very different to 15 minute blind tournaments.

and freerolls again different to pay tournaments.

3 words of advice for freerolls, dont gamble - you will see lots of players going all in with medium pocket pairs and so forth.
dont raise OOP with less than premium hands - you will get called regardless u might aswell limp and save your chips,

basically play to survive you dont need to take risks early you will make your money with your made hands, bluffing will do you more bad than good

approaching final table they will poo their pants and freeze up having likely never been there before or seen more than 50 dollers in a game

First of all stop playing tournaments with play money. You will not learn anything useful there you are just wasting your time there in my opinion... And you playyed one first depositors freeroll and already know you have problem?

If you only play cash for a tenth of your br you wont be playing scared. Also remember mtts are very hard, you will have downswings. One idea is to add up all the chips in play then divide by nine, this is a good idea of how many chips you will need for ft. Good luck.

There are 2 main points to why you play better with play money.
1. You know there is nothing on the line except for pointless fake money so you'll play more attractive hands like 76 suited which you'll hit and win pots, whereas on a real tournament calling with hands like this preflop is usually the wrong decision.
2. The people who play in play money comps are playing in them as they're not good enough to play real money, and so the ability of the players will more than likely be worse so the playing field is easier.
Instead of playing play money just play comps for like 55cents with high fields to practice, you can win quite a bit but also can't lose hardly anything.

Don't base your evaluation of yourself on where you place in a few tournaments. Focus on building a half-decent game, which is all you need to be a breakeven player or even a small winner at the lowest stakes.

Indeed, try not to focus on your results in either play chip games or open freerolls. You'll never make much money from them anyway, so focus on what will make you meaningfully profitable over the course of your poker "career", which is simply becoming / being able to consistently play better than your opponents at whatever level you happen to be playing at the time.

Hi I will recommend that you find this page http://www.pokernews.com/poker-tools/poker-odds-calculator.htm and use it when you play so you only play on hands with a high %. Try it, it Works very fine for me
I've just taken a look at that calculator. Could be very useful but from my quick test I would be running the clock by the time I'd got the hand set up properly.

Still, I might well give it a try later. Who knows, perhaps I'll become a mouse Ninja.

Give some advice

1st pay attention to table dynamics
the table dynamics are totally different in playmoney with alot of freeroll , against most of the real money table.

if people are not spending their money, they are not carefully about losing something, and u are easily get paid , meaning there are lots of weak players u could beat on the table.
but real money world is full of players who ,may be some part, try play this for living, therefore they care about income, profit, so they are tent to be good players againt u, meanning they will make less mistakes to pay u less.

poker is something , you need to beat weaker player. real money generally have higher skill level, logically should be like this.

__

so based on above, if want to perform better on real money table

my advice.

1st find weaker players...play with them, you beat them , you get what u want.
2nd, learn and improve your skills -- meaning decision making skills, if you could make more positive expectation decisions , finally after large number of hands, results will close to your expectation , meaning , you skills pay you off.
3rd. if u find there is some play like phil Ivey, you are unable to control, just close computer, and leave that table....

good luck.:D:D:D

PS: regarding some specific hands just as CC members, they are good.

Play money is for players who just start to lean poker.
Freerolls ir for players who already learned the bases of game and start to get better players.
If you know how to play poker, then forgot about play money tournaments and play only freerols, if you don't want to deposit real money.
