with pocket pairs I play almost always (if opponents allow to go to the bank cheaply), but I go all-in very rarely, because in most cases your chances are about 50/50, and luck can not always smile at you! in general, it all depends on many factors, such as the number of chips, the aggressiveness of players at the table, position!

here it is: you need to flop a set. This happens once in eight flops. If you are first to act raise. If raised before you call. if there is reraise fold. if you dont have set on the flop check fold. thats it

re: Poker & help with leaks
Really it depends what you are playing.
If you are playing micro zoom for example don't get too invested pre flop with middling pairs. If you get into 3 and 4 bets the vast majority of the time the best you can hope for is to be flipping.
If you are going to call 3 bets then more often than not do it in position, trying to flop sets in a 3bet pot OOP isn't great simply because most of the time you won't and you'll have to deal with over cards on the flop. At least in position you can control the size of the pot.
If you are in position in a HU pot don't just check fold. If for example you have 99 and there is one over card on the flop then peel one off and evaluate on the turn. People still C bet most flops but shut down on the turn.
The only other bit of general advice is know when to fold. If you have 10's on an 8 high rainbow board and someone is throwing out big bets on the turn or river then its ok to fold unless you have a specific read on them. You'll find that very few players at micro 3 barrel with no hand these days.
