Help! Im horrible

Ok long story short. I used to win and always now i lose and most of the time lose.

I worked a nice bankroll up and went on tilt and lost it all over a week or so. I took a break from the game and now have been trying to build up a bankroll agian but im not getting anywhere. Im playing a lot more than i used to, you would think i would be improving. I have overcame tilt and do not tilt any more, i know if i can get a nice bankroll i wont tilt it away again. Is it possible ive been getting worse from playing a ton of poker or am i just on a seriously horrible run?

I'd like to know just how you overcame tilt......you're the only person alive not prone to it if this is true.

I get away from the table if its really bad. As soon as a bad beat happens I convince its part of the game, its gonna happen, and i cant control what card comes on the river. I try to look at the hand positively.

Although it may not be that easy to do if build up a bigger bankroll and lose a 80 bucks in one pot or something. I can avoid tilt in the micro games at the moment.

Do you have any kind of bankroll management system??

First off, what stakes are you playing? That can have a profound effect on the skill level of your opponents. If they are playing all kinds of junk you might be very tempted to do the same just to see a hand. That type of play can wreck ya.

As for tilt I walk away just as soon as possible. If I feel even a little bit upset about some bad beats I stay off the felt for a day or more until it has passed. The worst mistake you can make is to jump right back on the table with a full buy in and a bad attitude.

With that said, when you see others take a beating then rebuy and play on tilt you know you have a good shot of capitalising on them, just play solid and they'll make a big mistake at a bad time.

It's possible that when you first started that although you may have been playing well you might have also been on the good end of variance. It's possible that you're still playing just as well or even better but you're losing your races right now. It's all about bankroll management and being able to sustain the downswings so you can turn around and go back into the black.

Ask yourself some questions

Usually when people write like you are doing, you know nothing about anything, of course I am joking with you, but you have two approaches when playing poker: Business og pleasure, and everything in between, in either cases you should have some kind of statistic to lean on.

I dont mean writing down each hand, but a definition of what you are about to play, and what your aim of the session are going to be, it is not unusual to have streaks of bad luck or streak of good luck, and before anyone can answer anything we have to know about the streak either way. Poker is easy, and you have to be a pretty shitty player to get nuked all the way, you can loose, but if you suffer beats after beats, it is usually your own judgement that is the problem.

Look for the easy answer first, have you changed to a higher limit table, have you changed anything that COULD affect your result, are we talking about a streak of bad luck for two years or three days? Are your lady pissed at you, do your own serious investigation about what you have been doing wrong, I bet a million dollar that you are able to find "something"!

Second of all, if you know how to get hand-analyses, post them and ask for a serious discussion, there are plenty of poker-nerds on this forum to get a more serious answer than here.

With a question like you are putting together it is usually general answers like the ones that are above, or something like: Hang in there pal, the luck is soon about to change!

So all I can say is: Hang in there pal, the luck is soon about to change!

I feel your pain. I have a similar story. I too am on an incredibly horrid bad run & not for the first time.

What I have found works (eventually) for me is to go back to basics.
Play so tight it's almost embarrassing & only go for the pot when you are as sure as you can be that you'll win.

After a few wins your confidence starts returning and amazingly the cards eventually start to come your way.
Playing catch-up just will not work. Accept that you are on a bad run and minimise your losses.

If you still get no joy a week off can also do the trick, you come back refreshed and with renewed hope,
I'd still play it v tight though for a while at least.

And if that doesn't work, drop to the lowest buy-in games you can bear, or better still a different
type of game you don't normally play, like sng for example.

And if that doesn't work..............

Been there

I went through this not too long ago and I'm sure I will again at lome point. For me I was trying so hard to "fix" holes in my game that I ended up playing completely out side of my own style. I went back to MY BASIC GAME STYLE "tweaked" a few things. You don't have to fit your game to someone elses. Take the things that work for you and leave the things that don't. Some people play really well LOOSE and others TIGHT. You have to be able to do both depending on what table you are at, but I think one of these or somewhere in between fits our personality uniquely and is where we play comfortable.

I think the most important point to play poker sucessfully is to have a very clear strategy -to know the odds/different stages of tournaments / know the styles of other players and react on them

After a game you have to analyse honestly if you play good and lost only because of bad luck or you made a lot of failure
For that you have to analyse ALL YOUR GAMES
and not only look to the bad beats

Now, I tried to reply, but guess I forgot to log in! Now, THAT'S BAD! I USED to think I was a GOOD player and would play in games really over my head! I had NO bank-roll managment skills what-so-ever! Not until I read Chris Fergusens article at Full-Tilt about bankroll managment AND started playing in Micro tournys and ring games AND free-rolls just for practice! I stayed out of real money games (unless I won a few bucks in a free-roll, which HAS happened!) All for practice. Plus Reading ALOT of articles right here on CC from more advanced players! In other words, I swallowed my EGO and started listening to players who really know how to play instead of my own gut instincts! There really IS ALOT of skill involved in playing this game, come to find out! GL!
