Hello there all you new poker fiends. I have been playing online for about 17 Years and am very successful but wasnt always. The first two years i lost about 25,000 Dollars and hopefully i can help you prevent losing yourselves or at least reduce your losses by following three simple rules. No reason to get into the complicated stuff while your still learning so here you go. NOW this info is for MTT and SNG play not cash games. You will go deep in everything if you listen to these three rules and follow them.

1. DO NOT PLAY A rag (A3 A4 A5 A6 A7 A8 A9)
2. DO NOT PLAY OUT OF POSITION.
3. If you are not sure your going to win FOLD FOLD FOLD. Stay alive live to play another hand.

Another good tool is to look at your game stats which are usually somewhere on the table you click stats it will tell you how much your betting and how many hands your playing. U need to be around 7%-11% THATS IT if u are playing more you are gonna be looked at as a fish by the good players at a table and will have a hard time getting respect. Hope this helps

For the benefit of the absolute beginner, can you answer "Why?" for each tip above, and offer any exceptions?

Also, how long did it take you to break even and become profitable? $25k is a serious hole to dig out of, at least in the beginner world.

Wow, didn't even know online poker was available 17 years ago!

Kind of disagree with all 3 of what you said though.

1: I can find examples which come up nearly always in MTT/SNG's where you will be playing an Ace rag in a profitable situation.

2: You will always have to play OOP with some hands which yield more EV by calling as opposed to just folding, just because we are OOP.

3: Basically with this statement, you're saying always play the nuts to the river and fold if you're not 100% sure you have at least a chop with the player. Doesn't seem optimal.

Example; How can folding Ace high for example on a 449 flop be profitable vs someone who opens 50% of hands and makes a CB 100% of the time? We're not 100% sure we have the best hand in this spot, but there is a decent percentage of the time we do have the best hand. The list goes on.
