Hi guys,

I've been playing poker a while and I have spent alot of time improving my game hours of tutorials videos and books/write ups.
This is my problem on any given day I can compete at any level and I have won
and gone deep in tournaments at all kinds of levels and I can adjust accordingly to the level of opposition.

I could answer most questions regarding strategy and alot of what I read I already think about the concept and strategy of needing to do this or add this to my game. I really feel I have some potential to do well.
But there is just one problem...

I cant make a profit.
I will consistantly run up a bankroll win a tourny or a few sit n gos. I get comfortable or slack off and this seems to be when it all goes down hill.
Im not sure if this is down to my own ability to focus or whether I just get bored of grinding.

I also dont have much patience when it comes to achieving my goals I really want to get secure bankroll Asap for the levels I believe I can do well at.
I can comfortably play upto 50/1 NL and I woudn't say i've ever gone broke at these levels but once I've lost I will spiral down try and get it back by taking big shots in tournaments or jumping into 1/2 NL and as you can guess it goes pete tong.

Im just really struggling to find an answer I know I have potential and when I am playing at my peak I will always run deep often win small mtt's and play a flawless game... And I think yeah Im getting better.
Even though I have improved my knowledge and skill
I still have these horrible habits that are really effecting my game.

I would love some advice
or maybe someone here has had the same problem with their game and managed to overcome this.

hopefully someone can contrib to this

Thanks in advance,
:)

My suggestion is what you can do is withdraw what youve won that way your constantly under pressure or you can move up limits with a loose br strat. Like 3o bi

a good idea actually may start trying a concept... anything above 100 at the end of the day gets transfered across etc

convert the 10 most recent cash game hands youve played and post them here. any winning player here can tell that you arent able to beat 100NL over a not-lol sample size simply from what youve said re your mental strength

I totally respect your comment
but I disagree regarding mental strength I think overcoming a barrier is the main problem I know mental strength is something in my own control granted you have a very valid point it for sure can be better.

the problem was I play shallow for 100NL and I had less than $300 as a bankroll.
and I run on this for weeks and weeks I maintained status at 4 star on pokerstars - I run upto $900 two tabling one at 100NL and 1 at 50NL
I feel to go this long on such a low roll shows I have something.

and ironicly it wasn't 100NL that broke me -

this has happened now maybe 5,6 times in the last year. I know its a weakness but I really feel it can be put right

It was the jump to 200NL that caused me to go broke - which as you say is down to mental strength in that instance

Well i think your problem is your bankroll management! I don't play a huge amount online but i am pretty sure that if you're playing $100NL then $3000 is somewhat shallow for a bankroll. maybe if you can only deposit roughly $300 then look at playing 4-6 tables or so of NL$10 and grind it up or if youre very very confident then maybe 4 tables of $25NL make sure you grind up to around 30 buy ins for the stake you move up to. If you lose 5 buy ins then move down grind again...

$300 is nowhere near enough to be playing 50NL/100NL. I suggest you read up on bankroll management. It is a pretty simple yet crucial part of being a successful poker player.

Move down(to lower stakes) and work your way up. This will give you tons of time to study and learn the game (including your game/stats/hand histories).

I think your prob right I just have to persevere and master BRM but I could most likely move up on $500 10 buy ins I have learnt and trained to the point where I do have alot of post flop skill but im missing something.

Im just lacking mindset, discipline focus... and get lazy when im content and can if im in that mood play a bit looser in an attempt to gain a bit more value.

would you agree that this is one of the traits bankroll management is needed for?
or would you say its solely the variance.

Just a quick comment .How long is weeks and weeks 4,8,12??Sometimes a good run or heater if you will , can last that long and longer ,that does not mean it is skill related. Not to question your belief in your skills ,just some food for thought, you need a very large sample size to give you an accurate picture if you are gonna be a winning player.......scorp

I have read through this thread.

OP:

You can't play $100 NL with $300 or even $900 for any length of time, without failing.

Your mental game is not there. I know you think it is (by your response to JC), but it's not.

To be a successful poker player you are going to have to:

Manage money VERY WELL.
Avoid tilt.
Stop thinking you are better than you are.
MANAGE MONEY WELL.
Practice SOUND bankroll management.
Constantly work on your game.
Listen to those who know more than you.

The work never ends. You have to keep improving.

Stop playing above your bankroll.

haha I know its already been said but LOL on the BRM, obv the problem OP. If you have 300 in your account don't play beyon 10NL not 50 and 100NL.

Not to sound rude, but you could sit at 100NL and have AA busted 3 times in a row bam goes the br.

Study it, grind the micros and move up based on proper BRM and back down if the level up takes a bite out of your BR.

OP, you say you lack discipline and focus. These are two of the most crucial skills a non-recreational poker player needs.

Don't mean to discourage you, but from your posts, you sound like you vastly over-estimate your abilities, have no concept of bankroll management, and don't respect the patience required to move up sustainably (ie not just go on a heater and move up "asap").

It seems to me you just want poker as a means of earning money only. The problems are though, you get bored of grinding, you have no patience to achieve your goals, you want to secure a good bankroll asap for higher levels you believe your capable of playing.

You then proceed to play with 3 buy ins and your struggling to find the answer as to why you're failing, really?

If you really, really want to make it then deposit $100 and work your way through the limits, study, use brm and you will move up in no time. You're trying to run before you can even walk.
