Hello everyone who was eye was caught by my "Hello and help!" thread. I have just joined today because I have got to the point in my poker career where I have realised how terrible I am, I loose a lot of money a lot of the time and its about time I listened to the advice I get and brush up and educate myself further on our game.

I mostly play online ATM because my electronic tag says so, but I do prefer to play live. I'm just after some advice and help to make that leap from a serial looser to a occasional winner.

I love to play MTT and the occasional Sit n Go so any words of advice, any online poker software I should invest in and any type of coaching or teaching e.g. Videos, blogs etc... Would be much appreciated!.

Thanks

For poker software - PokerTracker 4 ( probably a must for MTT ) , if youre bad at math Holdem Indicator,Tournament Indicator ( some software that does the calculation for you ). Coaching .. no idea, you can buy a few books that specialise in that area (MTT) or you can watch Gripsed's videos, I find them very useful and I advertise the guy everywhere I hear that someone needs help, his videos have been proven to work, atleast for me. I think thats basically what you need. You can watch his videos first, to see how you accumulate new information and put it into work before investing in any book or something.
Also, if you find yourself on a losing streak or on a tilt, take a break. Theres no shame in it. When you lose money you get annoyed, but the real loss starts once you get annoyed, so control that. And dont think that you are that bad, you might have just had some bad luck (beats) or smtn. Just play tight at the beginning ( premium hands ) do your best to double up or smthng.
I dont know what BR youre controlling there, but you can try to beat the low buy-in tournaments, players tend to play worse there. If you find yourself getting beaten up bad, go to the lower limits. Welcome, hope we hear from you again.

First off, admit to yourself that you enjoy the entertainment value of poker, both live and online. If you can't do this, you are in the wrong hobby. Start collecting Comic Books or something.

Then start here;

And welcome to CC.

hard to say what would help an individual person,
without knowing their strengths and weaknesses and knowledge

basics:
learn BRM (bankroll management)
learn ranges, M value (for when to shove or fold as small stack), player types (lags-loose aggressive,nits...)...
read read read- here or poker books
post hand histories- ask questions related to certain hands for more in-depth help

also mtts are a hard game to cash regularly
you might be better playing SnGs 9-180mans

also welcome to the forum, gl

The newbie, dj11 and micalupagoo thanks for the replies, I'm going to download poker tracker 4 right now and take a gander at the videos you suggested newbie and dj11 I LOVE to play poker, I dream of myself travelling from casino to casino so its definitely for entertainment!. Micalupagoo my strengths are my intuition if I get a feeling about something then I am usually correct! But my weaknesses are my concentration levels during long games so thanks for the advice brother!

Since you prefer MTTs, book-wise, I usually suggest Harrington on Holdem as a starting point for anyone who isn't already beating the lowest buyin levels.

Then if this is your dream - follow it, by all means. But if you are more interested in playing live poker ( Since you would want to travel from casino to casino ) I would count my advices that important.
Firstly - using poker software for online sessions has been proven to work for people that are new to the game, and to some that are more advanced players. You can download a trial version of PT 4, but it is limited. I think the full version costs about 100 dollars.
As this will surely improve your game, it is a good investment if you plan on earning a lot of money on-line, if you dont completely understand the game and are not capable of calculating stuff yourself, it might make your live game even worse than it is now, because you will get used to play with a lot of help.
The combination of Holdem/Tournament indicator and PT 4 will bring down your poker skills to 0%, probably, because Holdem Indicators calculate everything for you, by that I mean outs, pot value, so the only stuff that you would have to do is push the buttons. PokerTracker will give you enough information on your opponents, to tell whether its a good call or not and what you can do in a particular situation.
I dont think they will make your online game bad, as long as I earn money from poker I wouldnt be much interested how good or bad I am, but you can go for online coaching from then with the money that you have earned. This might not be the case, it might improve your game aswell.
So good luck and invest in your future, if you plan on playing poker for a living in the next years.
Wish you the best experiences with poker in the future.
Good luck.

If you are really new to poker, then you have to read read read theories and strategies. After that then you will apply those to either live or online.

Goodluck.

There are a lot of tips on pokerstars pokerschool... also you have live trainings where you can watch "pros" and ask them why they did certain moves and then try to incorporate that into your own game ;)
