what do you use for creating opponents hand ranges ?
Well to construct an opponent's range in a tournament, I always min-raise or bet 3x BB to get some information out of opponents. It narrows the range if an opponent calls your 3x BB raise pre-flop like I would think Ax suited or mid/top pairs.
However, it's kinda hard to do this pre-flop at low stakes and as a free-roll player, I've been destroyed by players who call my 10x BB raise (when I have AA) with 79o and then flop top two pair (board is 579 rainbow). Pretty frustrating to be honest, but I can usually discern their range by the turn or river by betting on the flop with half pot. In the prior situation, I call the villain's shove because my pocket aces will hold. The villain reveals and I nearly throw my laptop out of the window because I had placed the villain on a Kx or Ax hand or maybe JJ.
