I'm trying to define hand ranges based on VPIP on the tourneys I played in. I filter for all the players I have 100 or more hands with and then create an alias for each VPIP range: 0-10%, 10-15% etc.

The question is how can I use this during play, in terms of determining how the board helps/hurts preflop ranges? Aside from the very tight players (which only play premium pairs or AK,AQ), it's impossible to put hands on players who are super loose. For example if someone plays any Ace, any broadway, and suited connectors to 76s, and start betting with a flop of T85, what am I supposed to do? A pair of tens, straight draw, overcards?

You could download pokerstove and plug in the percentages to see what 10%, 15% 20% 30% etc looks like.

Sometimes you will have to change their ranges from the position they play them as you are more likely to have a bigger range in the cut off or button for example.

For super loose always going to be very difficult to put on a range???

I just replied to another post prior to this one and thought I would copy and paste what I just wrote.

I guess this is piece of advice if it is any. First do not use a poker steroid (HUD, Calculator) They are useless and you are not learning poker for yourself. A lot of poker players use them but they are just poker steroids to me. If you got to use one to beat someone then you are not playing poker your HUD is playing. Learn to take your beats, take notes, learn as you play. So what no physical tells. It is just making you a better player to play the cards and the previous actions of the player itself. A player is still human and they are always subject to change their minds. Even a HUD can not predict that.

PokerStove is a great piece of software and so is using a hand replayer. It is like watching a video of a game you just played on tv and studying your hands.

Have you ever used a HUD? Do you know what it is?
