I'm going to be going on holidays in about a month. Where I'm going there will be no TV, no internet, no phone, and possibly (most likely) no cell service so it's going to be awesome!! I'll have a chance to completely unplug for a while.

Can you guys suggest some books at the top of your list that I should read? They don't all have to be poker related but that's really what I'm most interested in.

Thanks!

I seem to remember someone mentioning a book called "Zen and and Art of Poker" in a different thread but I'm not 100% sure if that's what I was called. That one sounds interesting.

I just downloaded it. Is there one called "The Tao of Poker"? I've read "The Tao of Pooh" before and that was pretty cool.... Maybe I'll read that one again.

Yes I'ver heard the books by Harrington's are good as well. If youre into MTT I'd recommend books by Lee Nelson which are Kill Phil, Kill Everyone and Raiser's Edge. The style elaborated here is different from cash games and works mostly for tournament play.

Hope you enjoy your holidays!

I have the little green book and it's a good one no doubt. I'm bringing that one along. I'll check out the others too. Thanks!

I should have been more specific, I play mostly cash games. Cash online and tournaments live. Do you think the MTT books would help with my live play?

Thanks for the wishes I'm pretty excited!

Here are the books I have found most useful in poker and Trading (I trade financial markets though one would be surprised how interrelated poker and trading really are):

1. Sun Tzu's "Art of War"
2. Bill Chen's "Mathematics of Poker"
3. David Sklansky's "Theory of Poker"
4. Annie Duke's "Decide to Play Great Poker"
5. Harrington on Cash Games (volumes 1 and 2)
6. Phil Ivey's " The Definitive Guide to Edge Sorting"

Of course, that last one doesn't really exist. The rest of them I have found pretty useful. A non-poker type book that is very entertaining is Edwin Lefevre's "Reminiscences of a Stock Operator"

Yeah, just finished that one. I second the recommendation.

If you have any interest in IT/computers/interwebs then I can recommend "The Circle" by Dave Eggers. Not sure if non-computery people would enjoy it tho.

The MTT books that I recommended are strictly for that. Many concepts are explained which is not the standard type of play for cash games. Reading them might even worsen your play so I'd recommend you see other books is thats the case.

Thanks for the list! I'm a lumber trader so these would help me similarly.

Richest Man In Babylon

The Road Less Traveled

Richest man in Babylon sounds very interesting. The road less traveled is by Kerouac isn't it? I read that a few years ago and thought it was a great book. Maybe I should read it again.

Thanks for te heads up. I'm still pretty new to poker so it's probably best that I just focus on the cash books. I great recommendation for when I become a little more seasoned. Thanks!

I got a few books in mind. I need to check into more strategy books for poker and find a system that works for me. But if your looking for books, id recommend The Wisdom of Failure-book about finding your courage to keep on working at your craft. Think Twice- Book teaches you how to evaluate and determine action by knowing what your in for. Treat Poker like a business- by dusty schmidty is good for anyone coming and starting on cash. The plateau Effect- is a psychology book on helping someone mentally push themself to overcome fear and to keep going. check em out, they were all good for me, and i enjoyed reading em and finding out what i was doing wrong on thinking and all of this does apply to poker in some way.
