Any suggestions... I would like to know every possible idea there is out there to advance your knowledge and skills as a poker player... Reading & Playing are obvious ones but just wanted to know what else has worked for (winning) poker players... ALL COMMENTS APPRECIATED.

Yep you hit on it, reading and playing.

Also, post hands. You're thinking about your decisions and what you believed the villain was thinking. Get into conversation about the theory behind your decisions.

You did mention playing ;)

Cheers

Ive been backed into corner lately,so when I have a hand and I think I should play it, im going for it, Ive been doing way too much folding and playing my so called top hands and getting beat bad. So I think being a good player, somehow doesnt matter most of the time, but realitively how you use your chips, they are an arsonal that we have controll over,I wont just give someone my chips but let anyone steal and they will over and over.9 times outa 10 picking up those extra chips big or small count in the end.Just my point of view that you may already be aware of.goodluck at the tables.Havent been on fulltilt in a few years.

observing other players with different styles is also very helpful

Thanks for all the input i will continue to read and play alot dont know what the ratio should be but my guess would be to play more than read... But still read alot... i have watched videos ive asked friends if it helps they say "Its TOTALLY DIFFERENT THEY PLAY FOR MUCH MORE" which i think is jus BS because if you play with same number of BB's it should be the same?
@DANIEL72 never thought of that will deff try that .

just learn to beat micro stakes games.... its a world of headaches, haha

welcome...

and read more than you play..

70/30 the ratio

until you have read all you can ( there is always things to read) then play more.

better to equip yourself with more knowledge than to go in blindly swinging a blade around

I would say get your reads on players and their styles look for how they act and react , look to see what type of hand you need to have to beat them .

Understand that, how and what you do at the table will reflect how the others will play against you . Know that when you make moves it can and will change table dynamics .

Have an idea of what table dynamics you are comfortable to play with .

Know how to change the table dynamics and keep it changed to suit you and your play .

At micro- and small stakes, you can win playing fairly straightforward poker, but your win rate won't be optimal, and you will hit a ceiling where this style is no longer good enough. To progress further, you'll need to learn to observe / analyze different players' styles and to adapt your game accordingly.

You can hire a coach but it won't be cheap.

The cost may or may not end up being cheap depending on what you do with the knowledge you gain. While the thought of paying e.g. $100 an hour seems like a lot just looking at that amount, if the coaching kick-starts you toward making tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands or more, it ends up being cheap in retrospect.

Note that I'm not suggesting coaching is a good idea. I suspect it turns out to be a great investment for some, and that from there, the spectrum all the way down to a complete waste of money for others.

I found coaching waste of time if i`m honest. Got more out of reading one book than i did coaching. On a plus the price of coaching was very reasonable.

I"m trying to get better at studying. lately i've been pressed for time, so have been just playing when i can, but did spend some time with HM2 and Leakbuster yesterday. I am trying to make it part of my routine before i start a session.

Your Welcome . it does get indepth but with some observance and a little understanding , you can start to pick spots to gather chips and try to stay healthy (maintain a chip stack )

one thing that may help too is look to see if players at the table are playing for top pair top kicker or weak kicker because they hold an ace ...etc but ask yourself now what do I need for a hand to take this pot down if I am in a hand against this player or that player . Some thing to look at .

good luck gus201

I think that posting in forums and talking about how you play hands and how you could improve how you play them are a great way to get better.
