Brand new to this scene made an intro post and got an idea of how I'm gonna go about things, however I've stumbled across the post saying that people have never spent a dime and started off free rolling. I'd be grateful for some direction as to how to move in that direction, I'm under USA restrictions BTW. Thanks and much appreciated.

He is under US restrictions. He can't play at PokerStars.

He will need to play at one of the US friendly sites. Cardschat has freerolls on several US Friendly sites. I'd recommend reading the forum section under Freerolls to get an idea of what is required to join those freerolls.

Hey man, welcome to the forums~

it'd be pretty hard to start off with free rolls, though possible I suppose.

If I were you, I'd get a trial version of hold em manager 2/poker tracker 4 and throw 50 bucks or so onto an account at a us site...

Post any of the hands you have trouble with on here and also contribute to threads about other ccer's hands. This will help you in your hand analysis skills, and eventually it will qualify you for CC free rolls.

I wager that new poker players won't be able to build up a roll from nothing if they live in the US... just doesn't seem possible to me. In any event, you'd need some money for outside resources... computer software (eventually) and poker books....

my first poker book was hold em: theory and practice by sklansky. You can get some free poker book pdfs online... I've seen an online version of the little green book (but its definitely worth a buy/multiple reads), and you can get a free ebook from the Polished poker study group thread. You can expect to throw some money on these materials if they help you learn.

If you do have to spend money, make sure you get your money's worth of learning from every hand. Review every last one of them, and post anything you need feedback on here on CC; people are very friendly and will be glad to help!

It ain't like it used to be. The only regular freerolls are at ACR/BCP.

There are many, MANY, long time members here who grew up with freerolls and have essentially never deposited. Some have made substantial withdrawals, most have financed all their online poker playing via freeroll wins. I am one of those folks.

IT WILL NOT BE SO EASY FOR ANYONE JUST GETTING INTO THE GAME! Not until something magical happens like the USA opening up the laws so that competition between sites gets exciting again........don't hold your breath....

However! While you are waiting for the magic, you can learn how to enjoy the game via play money poker. Ignore the naysayers unless you are filthy rich. You can have a great time learning most of what is necessary to do OK at online poker. What you can't learn is something you don't need to learn just yet. There is so much to learn that you will never stop learning. You can never stop learning unless you stop playing.

Post until you qualify for our Freeroll club. You won't find any better games than our private freeroll games. Period! No game anywhere is significantly better at any buy-in. There might be better players elsewhere, but the general population effect in poker largely nullifies any outrageous advantage that some individual players may have.

Most important thing of all is to have fun.:D

I'm one of those who has never deposited and I started playing last year. Without CC freerolls I don't think this would have been possible, especially now that Carbon has no public freerolls to speak of and as far as I know Bovada never did. My bankrolls are still small but as long as I follow BRM I'm in no danger of busting out anytime soon.

It's still possible to build up from nothing, however with the increasing scarcity of public freerolls you might be better off depositing 50 or 100 bucks to get started. Everybody has a different take on this, my primary reason for building up through freerolls was all the complaints I had read about crooked poker sites and I didn't want to put any of my own money at risk until I saw first-hand what the real story was.

CC freerolls are definitely the best deal anywhere, and you will be able to experience a level of play that you would normally have to pay a significant buy-in to see.

I didn't put the penny poker for my 24 years of life,we advise you to try to play Freeroll like it when I did!

poker stars offers the opportunity to play many free tournaments, another plus is that in the poker school you are able to take tests on poker and it's going to get prizes in view of the tickets for good tournaments! I wish you success and more AA

Welcome to the forums. While you can get your bankroll started with freerolls, it takes a lot of time grinding. If I were you I would just deposit some money, it's way quicker and it'll save you time.

I started from scratch, never made any deposit and poker still helps me paying my bills every month. So, yes, its very possible! And if you are about to learn, you are definitely at the right place! But, for the record, cardschat freerolls have the toughest competition around, so get ready for that :) Cheers!

The best route would probably be a deposit because you will save a lot of time and heart ache playing free rolls and busting on the bubble after 1k+ players, but on that note I'm slowly building rolls on a few sites using just free rolls. It's slow.. but hey I've got the time.

Startin off building a bankroll on freerolls is easy to do . First you have to cash in on the freerolls and play as many as you can, then play small tournaments and as well as cash sit and goes and you'll build up that bankroll in no time . That's the way I did it and it works ok:D

I agree that the fastest way to a nice bankroll is to DEPOSIT monies into a site, playing either small tournaments or sit and goes, then go from there

If you have a lot of times to spare on freerolls..you ll do it finally..but in freerolls I think the game could be hard as in other tournaments.. so that depends on your skills..

There is a different OLP model which can put money in your pocket for free but does not involve a bankroll management process at all.

It is the pay to play model that is found at sites like WPT.COM. Zen poker also, and perhaps a few others. You can play these places for free (read the fine print) but you get bombarded by ads (or no access to the prime games), or you can pay a monthly fee and play ad free.

I won money at Zen via Hustler Casino's web site. I did nothing like requesting a withdrawal. It went exactly according to the T&C's, the money was sent out at the end of the month after I won the money.

There was no option for keeping it in my onsite 'bankroll' and there was no way to parlay that smallish win into anything bigger.

It is hard to get stats on how busy those sites are, but at a quick glance, it looks like combined they are bigger than the combined 'more regular' poker sites serving the US and that might include the new legal OLP sites in NV, NJ, DE.

I am doing the "build BR from freeroll" method as well. Started in Mid June so it has been just over a month now. I'm currently at $47 at Carbon. It is indeed slow, and takes a lot of patience. BTW the first half of June, I spent reading books before I even bothered with the freerolls to update myself as it had been a few years since I played.

The World Cup Freerolls at Carbon (promo over now) gave my BR it's start. .02/.04 cash and 1.10 SnG from there. Trying 2.20 SnG now as a test.

I'm trying to do this with Pokerstars but it seems their freerolls are a donk fest and they reward the bigger stack 99% of the time no matter how weak their hand is. You always have some idiot from some obscure country that goes all in every hand from the get go and gets rewarded for it. Fun stuff.

Only problem with freerolls is that they are free, so be prepaired for a lot of bad play and bad calls.
Be patient, learn your game and what hands are good openers.
Freerolls are skill, but with a lot of luck thrown in to make the final table and cash.
Am currently going down this raod myself so know what it is like. Good luck.

Is it only Pokerstars freerolls you play?

No CTF11, I also play the small freerolls on ACR and Black chip. Usually 450 - 500 runners. Made final table 10 times last couple of moths with one win.
Also won a ticket on the weekend at Full Tilt.
