Hi, i was just recently introduced to poker and i find it very interesting. I am still at the "schoolbench-learning phase" and i've got som questions that i'd greatly appreciate if someone possibly had the time to answer.

Question 1. If two people have the same pair, and the highest kicker is on the table, does that make a tie or is it the highest kicker on the hand that counts?

2. Do you include the kicker if two people has the same set?

3. if two people have the same flush, and the highest kicker is on the board, does this make a tie, or is it still the highest kicker on the hand that counts?

4. And finally, if someone has high card K-Q does he win over or make a tie against K-J.

As i said, I'd really appreciate it if there's someone here who has the time to answer this. And again, i understand if you don't.

Best regards

1. The best 5 card hand wins, so yes the non-paired card in the hole counts in making part of that 5 card hand unless there are three other cards on the board higher than that card.

ex. AK vs KQ on a K275J board, the AK is the winner as you look at it this way, KKAJ7 vs KKQJ7..........however if it was K4 vs K3 on the same K275J board it would be, KKJ75 vs KKJ75 for a tie (obv exclusion being if one hand made a flush or straight in the scenario).

2. 2 people can't have the same set, you would be referring to trips and yes similar to the previous examples it would be the best 5 card hand so the kicker could come in to play.

Basically the diff between a set and trips is that a set is when you hit 3 of a kind while holding the pair in your hand while trips is 3 of a kind when you hold 1 card matching a pair on the board......a set is much more disguised than trips, however with potential of trips there is potential of a full house.

3. Still involves the highest kicker based on the best 5 card hand.

4. kq vs kj would depend on the board, again the best 5 card hand wins so if neither connected and the board didn't double pair then the KQ would win. If neither connected but the board double paired (25577 for example) then it would be a tie as both would hold K5577.

Also welcome to cardschat, its a great place here.....gl on learning to play this great game............if you have any further questions feel free to post them here in this thread.

Cheers
