Fellow sportsmen, need some advise. How could I have played this hand differently? I was at a live 7 handed game. Blinds $2/4. Pre-flop I have black 77. standard x2 BB raise by button. I call in cut-off (I had limped). 2 other callers in early position. Flop 5 7 9 with 2 hearts. Checked to me. I raise x1 pot. Button (original raiser) min raises. Fold fold. Action to me. If I soft call, I will be down to 50% of the stack I started the hand with. Opponent is very deep. I soft call. Turn 8 of hearts. I check. I have a strong feel the opponent (old nemesis, LAG) does not have a flush. He calls me all-in. I still don't think he has a flush but has at least a straight. I think and then call. River a brick. I lose my stack. What could I have done except folding to re-raise on flop? Thanks & Cheers!!

I'd jam the flop probably. You almost always have the best hand, and have the turn and river to make a full house even if you don't have the best hand. When you let another card come off on that scary board, and it connects both the flush draw and straight draw, you are probably behind when your opponent pushes you all in on the turn. At this point, you're most likely less than 50% to win the hand, and depending on pot odds (weren't clear in this description), you are basically calling with a 25% chance to hit a full house.

If you raise all-in on the flop, you won't have to make this decision with a LAG opponent, thinking "did he really hit the flush/straight on me?" When all the action happens post-flop, you can say that you got your money in with the best hand (most of the time, anyways) and if the LAG still ends up calling you and outdraws you, then it's just not your night

Correct. I guess if I had not put the opponent on a flush, maybe he had put ME on a flush. Betting the turn would have put some pressure on him...TY.
