I can assure that's not the exact way it works. I know it sucks when you lay down a longshot only to see your out on the turn, but it helps me to remember that in the longrun I'll make money laying that hand down. It will eventually work itself out.

Its not happening as much as you think. When I 1st started playing I wanted to be in every hand because I was folding the winning hand way too much. Or so I thought. My brother forced me to play with a note pad and write down my hole cards and the flop turn and river for every hand. Then go back and look. Now days you can simply click on "history" and read over them during the break (you should do this anyway to refresh your memory on how others are playing) and you will see its not as bad as you are remembering. Like every other human on the planet your mind only wants to remember the ones that got away

hope this helps

P.S. at the bubble in a free roll sunday night, I folded 7 9 spades when I caught only the 6s on the flop, Gues what the turn and river were ;-)

Ignore it. Its just how the cards fall. At the end of the day you have to think to yourself that in the longterm folding the crap hands has helped you gain money. Don't think that playing bad hands will help because it doesn't. Ive been there and you just end up losing. Stick to your game and don't change it because of that. ;)

Your just on a bad luck streak. Keep playing and it well eventually turn around and you will soon start hitting. I've had them straeks like every other player, but they have turned around and I have won a few.

start with premium hands at least at first you can not really worry about 9 4 off boting if you would have played it to a raise that is just part of the game. If you play those type of hands they will hurt more than help trust me I knowfrom playing them out of frustration.

I noticed this when I started too, but like they all said it just seems that way because your brain wants to remember it. It can get frusterating though, but what can you do. It's not like we're psychic. If any of us were we'd likely make lots of money either from poker or something else. :D So we gotta do it the right way and suffer seeing good cards come out at the wrong time and bad cards being caught by people who call out raises and people calling with marginal hands when you bet preflop and catching a better hand. Your brain makes you think it happens a lot but eventually you'll get those $ back. Think of poker like a stock investment. If you played the right ones they may go up and down in the short term, but you'll steadily grow. :D

i think you should see as many flops as your stack allows. unless you have a big hand then i am for sure goin to see a flop no matter what.

If you don't have position or pot value you need a hand, calling bets to see a flop will just get you to donk off your chips a little at a time. A good rule of thumb is..."if your hole cards are not worth a raise, they are not worth a call". Thats a rule of thumb and goes out the window with implied odds and position.

Think positive. If you think about negitive the law of attraction will bring you down. Try sticking a piece of your body into a light socket and spring some life. It can only get better :)

i could be wrong, and someone let me know if i am, but i believe that in order to win a tourny you will probably fold about 70-80% of your hands. so keep folding those rags. fortune will come to you if you do.

I was feeling this way for the longest time today. Just got done with a five hour session that I ran mediocre in the beginning and then just horrible. My pp never seemed to hit sets and people were folding to any raise I made with big hands and reraised all my steal attempts. And when I called I never seemed to hit a good flop. I was at a table with extremely loose players and just needed a hand to play them and win a big pot but it just didn't happen.

but then I had a run of three good hands in ten minutes and turned a losing day into a day where I won five bucks. Five bucks isn't great for five hours but its still running at 22.73bb/100. But more importantly in my mind is that it goes down as a winning session instead of a losing one.

moral: yes the deck will be cold and yes it'll seem like none of your draws hit and absolutely nothing seems to be going for you... but if you bide your time and hang onto your money long enough to use it in the spots that you should, it'll all work out for you.

I know exactly how you feel, but seriously like a lot of other players mentioned here, that's poker. You can try playing loose and try to play every single hand, but it'll hurt you in the long run, and not everyone is capable of playing a loose cannon style and gaining chips. The best bet is to learn patience and crack people who play that exact style of playing everything.

Alternately, I also know of many times I think I hit great (ie: 2 pair with 5-8s), but I run into somebody that has trip 5s or trip 8s. ^^

I have had games where, 10-15-20 hands in a row, almost every bad hand I fold would have won and almost every good hand I play loses. It's hard not to play every hand. That's when the pattern would turn around.

Get some tracking software like HEM or PT and you will probably find that it is not the case at all. Sure it happens, but you only remember it because it stinks. I wonder how often when you hit your "hand" after you fold if you still would have won? Might be something interesting to keep track of.

As many have said wait a while and things will even out. Everyone has losing streaks (and winning ones). Just be patient and your will come. Try not to piddle away your chips on marginal hands. Save them for when you to get a strong one and watch your position.

This is pretty easy. If I have pocket 10's (and haven't gone all-in pre-flop) I will fold if higher cards come up and big bets are made. I might get bluffed from time to time, but I live another day!

Patience is the key sometimes you have to wait a long time to get a decent hand play bb and sb but dont play crap if you have a good hand and can limp in but dont risk all your chips to see the flop.

There are pros that say this. Chris Ferguson said in one of his blogs that if your not folding 80% of your hands you're playing too wide of card selection to be succesful deep into a MTT. Now, I'm not sure if other pro's agree as everyone has their own strategy (LAG, Maniac, etc.).

I've never heard that fortune will come to me if I do only play 20% of my hands. But I hope so!
