Hi guys, I've noticed that a few members on here have managed to build up a bankroll from nothing, this is something I would quite like to do but I find the freerolls are so aggressive that it takes so much luck to get deep.

Any help on the strategy I should be playing and how to get deep!

Many thanks

Play some small ball early on and play position for stealing blinds and open your range against stealers....unless you are playing in a donkement then I wouldn't open shove big hands, just play tight in general until the blinds increase then open your range in the mid/late stages and play position....

Just have fun in them and play more aggressively than you normally do. See a lot of pots when it is cheap. Be prepared for anything lol.

The CC freerolls have better than average players for freerolls but we still have our share of fish. Also - they are freerolls and people will almost always play differently when it cost them nothing.

Take me for example lol. I do things in CC freerolls I would never do in a live tournament. I have nothing to lose but time -which is often more valuable to me that fighting my way back once I don't like my stack size. Or even early in the tournament when I am normally tight - I want a double up - or to get back to work lol.

I also never care when I bust for 2 reasons. I can get back to focusing on work which I have plenty of - and I know I have lost to a CC member who might go on to cash and I work hard to get these games for all of you and love it when you build your bankrolls through them.

So - I guess it is a bit different for me in that regard - I really never lose. :)

Thanks guys, trying to post some interesting stuff even though I don't have much to offer to try and gain access to the CC freerolls!

I tend to play really tight untill most of the the people going all in everyhand are out, usually after an hour and play every premium hand really aggressive! Also do not bluff as you will get called with bottom pair most of the time!

my strategy in FR is TAG/LAG/ETC...
lol, play more aggresively and play more hands at begining when it's cheap to see flop
on another site's beside CC, play even aggresively with good hand, it's always someone to call your all in
in CC FR, are usually better players and tighter game, but when you make it to the CC FR, it's usually more fun to play than on the all other sites combined, since our guys/girls are more civilisized than everywhere else
and welcome to CC, try to be more active in our forum and read more in "strategy article"

This thread was fine!

However - don't feel like you have to create your own threads. It is probably easier when you are new to just find existing threads you feel comfortable making quality comments in.

They don't have to all be poker related threads - you can join in on discussions in the Players Lounge too.

Just refrain from making a lot of short one-liner posts. (not saying you have been - didn't look).

There are many threads that you ( or I ) don't have to be a poker pro to post on.
Being that I've played in many a freeroll on different forums before "Black Friday" the quality of most of the players here on CC, are A-1.. of course that's excluding me LOL...

As a beginner, take the long-term view. Start by learning to play ABC TAG poker. Don't begin by shaping your game to try to fare better in freerolls. If you have a little talent and any kind of work ethic, you won't be playing them long anyway, at least not the open donkfests.

Freerolls are sketchy because people dont care as much. I still try to play the same. So many different opinions, just find your game and hold true

Freerolls are unpredictable. I just went all-in with AA and 3 more did so lol. Guy with K5s got flush so I was knocked out.
Last night I was going to sleep already, but was registred in one freeroll. So I decided to try donkstyle just for fun. I really don't know HOW but it worked. I raised and reraised 10-20bb and went all-in every second time with any cards. In 20 minutes I was chipleader with 40k chips. And the average stack was about 2k only. In 25 minutes luck showed its back to me and finally I started to lose my stack. But whole 20 minutes this donk luck worked for me!
That was strange experience and now I think that luck in poker is as importent as skills. And if I lose game it's not only my bad skill lol.

ross1122 I can tell you what I do, #1 try not to go all in early in the tournament. #2 If you find yourself in a position where you have to go all in, anywhere in the tournament, try to make sure you are head to head.#3 early in the tournament when you can see a flop cheap, do it!#4Always keep in your mind this is a marathon, not a sprint. #5Stay away from lucky players If possible.

Tight is right. It's a tournament so as long as you stay ahead of the structure you'll do just fine. That statement alone means so much. Don't be scared to fold your way to a cash (your trying to build a broll right?) Good cards will come during your rush so don't worry about that. Play poker.

There are too many players in the open freerolls, like pokerstars and fulltilt.May be some private freerolls are better.

The bigger problem is that 1) too few players get money (most freerolls pay out to 1% of the field), and 2) freerolls are played in super-turbo format, which encourages donk play and effectively erases your skill edge.

In short, freerolls are meant to be lotteries, built so that a few donks win some money, think they're pros, and hand all the money back to the site as rake. They're specifically built to discourage anyone from using skill to profit on them.

I think you missed what luckytvguy was saying.
I'm fairly certain the games they were referring to were 'private freerolls', where there are smaller fields & better play/players.
Structures are not all turbo and payouts are typical top10%

No no, I was just correcting his perception on open freerolls (I've been in open freerolls with less than 100 people that have been just as nightmarish as the large-field ones). Private freerolls are usually pretty great.

100% true ...also freerolls 95 % - donks just trying their luck ... put all in any hand .....

There are several websites that offer you a cash no deposit bonus.
You can build your BR up from there, just google it, the information is out there...

Personally, I prefer playing as many hands as I can in the begginng. Of course trying to avoid shoves (except if you have big pairs). Try to be always above the avarage and play safe!
