Well I personally think that luck is a key paart of freerolls early on in the tourney.
Later stages of the tourney where you are close to the money there is some strategy involved more.
but early on you can try to make moves and it wont help out that much.
Just be really patient, play only the nut hands, try not to put to many chips in preflop no matter what hand you have starting out."I only say this because you are likly to get called ny more than one prson at the table.".
And when you get closer to the money it is then you can start bluffing more and try tring to steal some pots.

First, Dont do stupid calls with 9 10 or so in early tournament.
Play tight, = play only good hands, Dont limp with good hands, Bet/Raise with them.. Be patient.
Goodluck on freerolls.

yerh , but you can end up paying just 100 chips just to see the flop and the blinds get quite big quickly so they eat away at your chips , i say don't go all in with nothing but don't wait for the very *best* cards to make a move.an ace and a qeen or something in that rank is good enough.

Best thing is patience. Wait for your cards. If you chip stack is below 20 BB's then start to open up your play but until then be patient!

keep track of what the average stack is in the tourney. know how many chips you need to sit at the final table. especially in the turbos, you can find yourself being blinded out quickly and becomes all in poker. just know when its your time to make a move.

Don't call all ins in the first 10 minutes of the game (unless you have AA)...more often than not, the worst hand wins. Be patient, you will be able to double up when you get the right hand and all the fishes think you don't have it.

I started by playing freerolls, they are a great way to learn at no cost. I began by making a chart of the hand rankings for reference and added to this a starting hand chart, initially i only played the sweet 16 hands to learn the game better and to learn to be patient. I played this way until i had a good understanding of how the game is played, i was and still am researching and reading as much as possible about poker and playing as much as time allowed. When i thought i had an understanding of position i added to my starting hand chart, increasing the number of hands i would call or raise with before the flop but including position in the decision. I never bluffed, until i knew when and how to, i think this comes with experience keep playing and you will eventually know when a bluff has a good chance to win. If my stack becomes too small then i will relax my starting hand reqirements, i consider ten times the big blind to be a small stack and at this stage i think it is best to go all-in or fold, i will push with any ace or king, two picture cards or any pair, maybe even suited connectors nine ten. I always know when a flush is possible because i use the four colour deck, takes a little getting used to but makes the game easier.
Good luck.

i would have to tend to agree this is pretty much how i try to play also yet i still find myself going out on the bubble anyways cus i get greedy and try to pick up some extra chips

There are two ways to look at it - play conservatively at the beggining, last for at least an hour, then still you might bust out before the money. Or you can play the donk game and play really loosely and hope to get lucky since its just a freeroll. I usually do option A, unless its like one of those .Com ones or a turbo. Good Luck!

Patience, patience, patience!

Sit tight at the beginning of the tourney, only play big hands for the first half hour or so. Don't bluff early on, as it's likely you'll be called by a donk.

As you get towards the bubble, start opening up a bit, picking up chips where you can (although don't try and steal too often).

Play Very Very tight! Write down a list of hands you'll A) call with pre flop, B)raise with pre flop (and re-raise, really JUST AA and KK, V V rarely AK to get rid of the muck) and thats it. Dont play out of your range till the last quarter, then mix it up with the real players left.
Outlast the sit-outs. After the first hour the field will have at least halfed, half this again with the sit out's, they will drop after the break from the blinds.
Get VERY lucky. Most freerolls pay 1% of the field, 27 places in 2700 players on Full Tilt. You wont cash on a regular basis as a learner.
My advice is not to play freerolls to learn. You wont get a good feel for the game until there is cash on the table. Make a deposit and play $1 SnG's or similar. Everyone wants something for nothing!

Fold the first 15 hands. Unless you get super premium AA or KK. Pass on everything else and let the first 1,000 people knock themselves out(assuming Full Tilt 2700 person FR). Play tight from then out.

easy strategy, play ur best, dont try bluffing somone unless they have proven they are a somewhat respectable player cus other wise some of those donks will call a bet that would put them all in, all i can really say is play smart thats the best you can do. shouldnt play any different

buy a lucky rabbits foot, a horseshoe for above your door, read your horoscope everyday and wear your lucky poker pants, if it all works and you get lucky then u'll make the money, don't pay attention to the stack sizes early on, its more likely that the large stacks are the worse players in the tourny and have been wearing their lucky pants

yeah definately takes alot of Patience thats for sure, also all depends on your cards. I try to play only when I am in the blinds unless I get good cards otherwise. Freerolls are not easy to win expecially with lots of people in them.

As more than once probably it has been stated - in freeroll it is necessary to play as well as in all tournaments accurately in the beginning and is more aggressive on advancement in game, it is less than hands, allin only with very strong hand or a ready combination, to play on the contender and on its stack)

First rounds you need lucky high cards
and also a bit luck on flop
cause everyone goes allin or calls with stupid cards
just try your luck :) don't worry when you loose it also freeroll :)
then play your game ;)
